Hey all! I built me another Strat!

This is a chambered black korina body from Warmoth. The neck is wenge with an ebony fingerboard. The dots are MOP and the frets SS6115. Tuners are Planet Waves.

The pickups are Rio Grandes: Vintage Tallboy, Dirty Harry Jr., and Muy Grande, neck to bridge. The pots are 280k vol, 250k tone, and a Rothstein Guitars "Voodoo Tone" module (mid-shaper). The cap is a Jensen paper/oil 0.047uf. I put a 0.001uf treble bleed across the volume pot for the hell of it.

Speaking of tone...this thing has the most unique tone I've ever heard, and in a good way. It sounds great clean, but what really surprised me is that it just wails with high gain. "Howling" is the best adjective I can think of to describe the high gain solo tone.

    Enjoy.

Thanks guys, it is really light weight. Don't hate too much on the f-hole. At first, I did too, but it grows on you after a while. At least it did with me. Now I kinda dig it.

            I LOVE that guitar.

And this is quite miraculous considering I hate Strats, AND f-holes for the most part.

That f-hole looks classy and perfectly in place.

Is that a standard sort of thing Warmoth does?

That thing looks amazing. I think the F hole brings it together, and I also often find them kind of bland. The black hardware looks slick as well.

I've never really been a Strat or an f-hole fan myself. My mind has been warped by surfing the Warmoth site.

Seriously, all of my guitars are multiple humbuckers; none are single coils. I wanted to build a single coil Strat. I was looking for a hollow body and ran across this one. At first, I hated the f-hole. As I went back and looked at the body again, and again, and again, it kind of grew on me. Finally, I pulled the plug.

The f-hole is not necessarily a "standard" thing that Warmoth does, but they do them custom order, and some of the showcase bodies show up with them.

And thanks to CharvelRocker and Gtrbuyer!

BTW, the Rio Grande pups kick all kinds of aXX! Their slogan is "Texas tone that's bad to the bone." If you don't live there, just remove the word Texas, and you get the point!

You are the other big W fan on this board...was wondering when you were going to chime in! I thought the f-hole scared you off...it almost did me.

Thanks. You like the RG pups, as well? These surpassed my expectations. I thought I was building a blues guitar, and discovered that these things are capable of clean, blues grit, and metal all in the same...and they're single coils! The lower registers definitely sound single-coil like, but in the middle and upper registers, they scream!

I've been a fan of Rio Grande pickups ever since I owned a Robin Medley. The guitar pictured above is loaded with a matched set of Muy Grande Strat single coils that will literally rip your noggin off and crap down the old neck bone!
