  • Couldn't resist, I bought another 7 string

I had one of these a while back and I really liked it , but I needed to sell it
to fund my Rectoverb head, but I knew I would grab another one at some
point. The last one I had was a 99 and it had a flat spot down the middle of the back of
the neck and after about an hour of playing it, my wrist would start to hurt.
this one is a 97 and has a rounder fuller neck profile to it. I'm going to throw in a set
of Bareknuckle pickups asap. I got a decent deal on it and it's in minty fresh shape.
This will compliment my Carvin 7 really well as it will sound a lot different from my Carvin.
    Pics.

If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

That one looks awesome man, I've been jonesin for a 7 lately. After being totally dissapointed with a 1527 I played I've wanted to give one of these older ones a go.

      thanks!
This one looks to be a keeper.
The 99 I had was pretty nice, but as I state above, it had a flat spot in the middle of the neck that made the neck feel too skinny.
This one (the first year models) have a rounder neck profile to them.
I like this one much more and I've only had it since Saturday.
It needs a little neck tweak to it but even as is it plays great.
the BK's I have in my Carvin (Nailbomb/coldSweat) are very open and organic sounding. Great for lead, but could be a bit tighter
      for fast riffage rhytm playing.
I'm going with a Miracle man in the bridge of this one and a duncan Jazz in the neck.
That should give me 2 very distinct sounding 7's.
Have you tried a Carvin 7?
This is a nice 7 but my DDC727 still completely smokes it.

I'm surprised you think the Carvin is in another league. I used to have an RG7621 and it was as good as anything else I've ever played. I just kind of lost interest in 7-strings or I would still have it.

Cool. I had a red (vampire kiss) RG7620 awhile ago and really dug it. I then had a Schecter 007 Elite which was also cool. I sold them both off, but I feel the urge for another 7-string again and will probably eventually get a Carvin.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

What, no Carvin Joking aside, that one looks killer! Nice grab!

              thanks!!!

I love my Carvin(still my main numero uno guitar), but I don't like to "collect" multiples of the same guitar.
I'd also like to get my hands on a MusicMan Petrucci JP-7, to "round" out my 7's, but they always go for way too much cashola

                It's a 1997? Does it have a 97 serial number?

The reason I ask is because 1998 was the first year for the 7620, but I'm sure some were made at the tail end of 1997. I believe Royal Blue was only offered for that first year. I like that color.

Nice one. I've owned quite a few 7620's and 1 7621. I like them til the novelty wears off and I trade them. Never really used one to it's fullest potential.

I'm under the assumption that the serial number tells you the year.
this one says CE F9740754 on the back of the headstock.
my black one had a CE F98###### number and it was a 1998.
                  but I could be wrong?
I've gotten really into using the low B to extend arps and scales. Even when I'm playing 6 string songs I'll use it so I can do things like 3 octave arps without changing position.
I'm really not much of a "chug, chug , chug" player. I really like the way Petrcucci uses 7's, so I've been trying to learn all of the DT 7 string stuff lately.

You have it right. It's a 97 number. I bet it is one of the early ones.

I'd love to try a carvin but unless I pony up some cashola myself I don't see it happening. Currently I'm funding a nice workshop to play around in myself, but if that goes tits-up I can sell everything and order something nice I guess

I saw Korn live in 2001 and Munky was playing an Ibanez custom number in the same kind of blue but with white bindings and white pickups, IMHO the best looking guitar he ever had.

This one (although he appears to have the bridge pickup swapped.)

They were kicking so much ass that time, they still had Head and Dave in the band and they were as tight as shrunken jeans.
