  • Great Guitar Parts You'd Recommend

I couldn't find a place to post this thread, so I thought I'd post it here.

Anyone have a guitar part that you'd absolutely recommend?

For me, if I order a new custom guitar, it's got to have this trem [Gotoh Fulcrum 1055 Trem]:

I played one recently and it was fantastic, the most touch sensitive trem I ever played, total control and lots of fun to play. Great tone as well.

Any other parts you'd recommend (everything from nut to saddle to tuners to bridge to tailpiece to frets, etc). Let's leave pickups and electronics out of the conversation for now.

    I have a few.

The Tool! Everyone who has a Floyded guitar should have one.

Fingerboard Guards. Great for cleaning frets and saving the fretboard.

Gorgomyte. Best fretboard and fret cleaner out there.

Those are the 3 I can think of right now.

Thanks, I don't have THE TOOL and I'd find it very useful.

This is what I use for fretboard cleaning:

The thing I love about gorgomyte is that it's self contained. Just cut off a piece of the cloth and go to town.

        I'm lazy that way.

Every one of my guitars that can use them gets Planet Waves auto-trim tuning keys.

I spent a sizeable chunk of change a while back changing knobs out to Q-Parts. The imitation ones sold by StewMac (and others) don't even compare to the quality of the real thing. Not to mention the variety, and they're not really that much more expensive.

Terrapin made me some great custom pickguards, and I plan on doing a few more.

A Floyd Rose trem is great, but with a Hipshot Tremsetter it's perfect.

GFS has some nice roller-saddle Tune-O-Matics which I've put on a few guitars.

GFS also sells the chrome or gold (plated plastic) mounting rings that are the correct size for most import guitars. Whereas StewMac has the ones that fit the domestics, and in black anodized.

Gibson's TP-6 fine-tuning tailpiece is a pretty neat upgrade from a standard stopbar. It's heavier so it adds natural sustain, and it looks pretty cool. If you're a tuning stability nut like me, you can even use it with a locking nut.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

              DiMarzio Cliplock strap.

Saw these at NAMM - http://www.timarastringbenders.com/t-2000.html

Now I have to find a USA Jackson or Charvel with a damn v-trem to put them on

                  1- Quantum Hotsauce

It's made for fishing reels, but works THE BALLS on any pivoting/moving/sliding trem/nut/thread thing you've got... supposed to have teflon in it, that works it's way into the metal permanently. I can attest.

2- Gotoh Floyd Rose Lic. trems

3- Lemon oil (Planet Waves, or Tres Amigo's if you can find it)

BE CAREFUL w/ NEWC's link there- My machine at work cleaned 3 viruses as soon as I went to it. Looks like someone screwed with their site. 2 keyloggers & some sort of trojan from what I see.

Only sites I was on other than this one at the time, email not open. Norton popped the second the site came up. So take it for what it's worth.

                    infostealer.banker.c, 2 varieties, and trojan.webkit!html.

                      LOL
thanks for the tip though Vass.

McAfee (even after update) came up with nothing, nor did Scotty (winpatrol)

Possible that work's not security patched & you are- Most script type viruses, from what I understand with my limited knowledge, won't nail anyone, just those that havne't patched up for the particular threat. They may have not gotten past square one with yours.

I will say IT is pretty hard core @ my firm so I'd be surprised, but it's not impossible.

RS Guitarworks CTS pots and switches.

FYI, they are also having a sale this weekend starting Friday, July 4th at 12:00 am EDT and running until July 6th, at 11:59 pm EDT 20% Internet Sale. This sale is good for any products through on-line orders only. This includes Pickups and Guitars. It doesnt include repairs, refinishing, or other services.

I was going to order some new pots and switches, but I will wait until Saturday morning to do so. Depending on what you are buying 20% is nothing to sneeze at.

I just did a quick google on Ripley7t and here's what popped up:

Ripley7t, 51% owner of vista engineering inc., a shell company that's changed it's name 6 times in the last 4 minutes.

Majority stock holder/principal owner of such questionable software development firms as QDP FastCashNow.com, and RS Guitarworks/CTS, you know, the company with the big sale this weekend.

                            KIDDING!

For your stop tail string box - Tone Pros Locking Bridge and Tailpiece. I have them on an SG...friggin' amazing on that stick!

Fer yer floating trems...Brass sustain block from floydupgrades.com. I have them...they work! Heck ya'.

Sperzel locking tuners - slide the string in, lock it down, done! Higher ratio gearing for more precise adjustments while tuning.

I find that these items improve tone and/or reliability, so you can spend more time playing and enjoying and less time fiddling and cursing!
