  • takamine gx-100bt

So my father in law who doesn't even play guitar surprised me today. For you that dont know he does custom paint on just about anything. Well any ways, he brings me this guitar case. Open it up and its a takamine gx-100bt with a custom mid evil knight paint theme. Very sweet. I will post pics when I am back up at his house with my camera.

Has anyone played one of these? I was surprised to see that it is a neck threw guitar with what appears to SD pickups. I can not find much information about it online. He told me it was given to him as a gift about 12 years ago. He painted and then put it away, and basically forgot about.

    Thanks for any info.

I'm awfully afraid it's not a true Takamine. I remember this topic came up about a year ago and if memory serves me correctly, Takamine claims they never made a solid bodied guitar.

Seems that is what Takamine says but their appears to be several years in the 80's when these guitars were made. By who? I have no idea. Looking around on line it seems there is models such at BX-100 , BX-100bt, and the BX-200.

Sounds like a few other owners have attempted contact with Takamine and were told they never made a electric guitar.

Guess I am scratching my head on this one. Why if they didnt make it would there be some floating around? Is there someone out there putting there name on a guitar? If so, the big question is why?

I will still post some pics when I can. It looks nice just the same.

Man, I hope it's a legit guitar, but it wouldn't be the first time some organization (douchenozzle) has tried to dupe the buyer. I just did an Internet search and I'll be damned if I can find anything current to verify their existence.

Waitaminnit. I swear I saw Takamine electric ads in magazines in the 80s. They had a Star-shaped thing IIRC, sorta like the Aria Pro IIs.

Were you contacting Takamine in Japan or in America?

Call Fender and ask them about old 80s Jackson/Charvel stuff, they won't know.

          See what I'm sayin?

Look, all I know is that I can't seem to find anything, including Takamine's website, that reveals solidbodied guitars were ever built. Their website even has a history section dating all the way back to 1968. Calling Fender and asking about a totally different company from the 1980's is totally different than inquiring from Takamine who was, uhm Takamine in the 1980's.

Now, I've pulled up a couple of pictures of possible Takamine electrics, but I can also pull up a buttload of guitars that look exactly like Fender Strats and they're not.

I've found a couple of "iffy" sources stating that Takamine made a few models from 1982 thru 1986.

I used to have a Takamine Violator which was their model for the dude from Voivod. They did in fact make electrics, and they pop up on Ebay all the time............

Well I have no place to fight this one. I was shocked to see it say Takamine. I found a few online as well if you just search for "takamine gx 100". Leaving off the bt reveals several modals from Takamine back in the early eighties. Now by all means it could be fake. I am only as good as my search engine when it comes to vintage guitars.

I have not contacted Takamine about this guitar. I would like to get a serial number for it first. So I may take the covers off the back in search of one. If it was any where on the outside it has been taken off and/or covered with the new paint job.

I read on someones post while searching that they had contacted them and was told they never made them. They didnt advise who or when they had made contact.

I will get some photos to post here and send to Takamine. We will see where that takes me.

                        they can't be worth much.

                        who would fake them?
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I have a takamine solid body electric guitar. it's an explorer style. I can take a pic if you want. I have stripped the paint and everything off it, but it is a solid body guitar and it was at least make for Takamine. I got mine in 1984.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Yep that is what his looks like, except it has a tremelo. Yea that only way its work anything is maybe its rare? But thats not what I was looking for. Just some facts about it. I would be very surprised if he would ever consider putting it up for sale. Seems to be attached to it. Heck it took him 3 months to hand paint it.

Thanks for the feedback. It appears to be a real guitar. Kinda funny its so on heard of. Must of been a budget guitar for begginers.
