I think they are similar. The Studio might be a bit thinner, I remember reading something like that but I don't remember exactly.
Some will say that the "lower quality mahogany" goes to the Studio line. I think the "lower quality mahogany" goes to the whole non Custom Shop lines. Standards and all.
As for weight, they are light. They are chambered now and weight relieved before last year. They are not heavy.
Actually, the day of the heavy Les Paul is over. Since they remove about all of the mahogany now, they come in pretty light. 7-8 pounds.
Studios are pretty cool, I've owned a few. Try to find an early 90's one with the ebony fretboards, those were sweet.
Oh yeah, beware the mini-Traps.I'm angry because you're stupid

The faded vintage mahogony L.P.studio is a great buy IMO.I've had 3 so far and each one was great.BB pro's sound good.
The 80's studios are about the best again JMO.No weight relief holes so a bit heavier.
These had either 57's or Shaw pickups which kick major ass.
If you can find an 80's studio standard(binding and flametop) its basically a standard with dots.Killer guitars and rare as hell.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

The Studio vs The Std. The Studio is all mohagony including the carved top. The Std has a carved maple top. There are some studios with maple caps but they are thinner maple than the STD is. And not as select. All studios have the 50's style neck carve and the std comes with either 50's or 60's neck carve. Tuners and other hardware are exactly the same. The pups are differant tho. The studio has the 490R and the 498T
Where as the STD has the burst buckers. And yes both are chambered.
