so, the clear is curing, and i have a big dilemma.

....i saw some pictures of the back of an lp axcess.
holy cats, i shoulda done that.

however....i still can; i'll simply need to reshoot the back of the guitar.
kinda on the fence, but i think i'm gonna do it.

i'm kinda thinkin you're right. there may be some adjustments i'll have to make as it relates to the satin back of the neck, but we'll see how it goes.

You definitely should do that if you can. It could turn out really cool. Keep us posted of possible.

I'm tryin to picture what you are talking about, so yea guys I'd like to see some photos also.
Are you talking about a 'tummy cut' type of thing?

Sully, dont ya hate that right when you're almost done, you get this revelation of an idea and then either have to scrap it all or leave it as is?
How come these good ideas dont come during the drawing board portion of the build?
I guess sometimes I get inspired with something as I'm building, and generally I keep it in the primer phase for as long as I can, but sometimes, such as in your case it doesn't work out that way.

I'm sure that you will be able to move on and pull it off nicely.

nah, not just a gut cut, but the neck joint is scalloped out.
here's what i was able to find:

these pix are pretty good, but i'd like to find a shot of the scalloped out as if you were holding the guitar by the headstock and looking down the back of the neck.

Man, nice work Sully! You should post these over at ReRanch, although the NiOSH-filter nazis might have a field day with you... :ROTF:

Also, what does your wife think about you gluing headstocks on her granite countertops? I see you moved the project to the garage in a hurry!

                    thanks man!

yeah...the filter mask. um, well...i have no excuse, and yes, i'm setting a bad example. the mask that i have is pretty filthy; i really should do something about that.

and headstock repair is good to do anywhere! if nothing else, at least i had it on a towel!

Oh ok that is pretty nice! and we all know that any kind of route is an improvement on a Les Paul.
Do you think it would hurt the structural integrity of the neck joint? Been a while since I'v had a Gibson, so I'm not too sure on how deep you can go with it, but you can surely make something useful out of that design.

+1 dude! I say go for it!

Just be careful Sully, we've all see those horrific pics of the cross section of Gibson neck joints with the enormous gaps. Imagine you start carving up the heal, and discover a big gaping hole!

Sounds like A-Rod's first night with Madonna. :ROTF:

oh man. you raised some points that are equally horrific and hilarious!
although from what i can see, the majority of the carve is in the body; little of what i've seen so far seems to be neck related. i may not replicate it exactly, but i'm sure that i'll come up with something that works better.
