good call on the splines...suggest using carbon fiber as you can inlet a much smaller carbon fiber rod and get maximum strength versus wood...and god knows Gibson headstocks need all the help they can get
looking forward to more video...and BTW,sadly,we have no Dunkin Donuts in my neck of the woods, and Starbucks doesnt lend itself well to home-luthiery,so mainly I do the home-brew
actually, after doing even more research, i decided against splines.

thanks all! hopefully, this will be an eventful spring and summer for ol' sully.

so,are you leaving as is? or adding a new headstock overlay?or....?

      • the break is glued up, solid, and as is. here's a pic of how it looks now:

you can see that the break is covered with black, so there's no reminders of carnage once experienced.

i was thinking about putting a new overlay on, but they seem to be hard to find, and what i've found so far have been for the 59 headstock shape. i have no idea how it compares to what i have now, so i may just leave it as is. the good thing is that if i ever decide to replace it, it won't require a full refin or anything, ya know?

                    part 10.2

it's got strings on it now, but i'm not gonna wire it up myself; i want to not throw the guitar through the window. pete's gonna handle the wiring for me. good guy, that pete.

                    plays great!

BTW is that a signed Badlands album behind you in that pic?

                      • Yep. I was working part time in a record store when the album came out, and they did an in-store at one of our other locations. Went to that, had the band sign the album, Jake signed my BATM tour shirt (He signed my album as "Jon, Cool Shirt! Jake E. Lee"), and went to the show. It was kickass.

                        • Wow that finish looks great!! The whole guitar looks great!!!

I'm torn between using Tung oil on my neck of a project I'm working. I'm going paint it Honey-Burst or try to.. but I'm going back mahogany.

Thanks man! All that's left is the wiring.

As far as the back of the neck goes, I've used Tung, Danish, Linseed, and Gunstock/Tru-Oil. I'm super sold on the Gunstock oil.
