The funny thing (it's funny if you love irony) is that getting used to a 24.75 scale isn't going super well. it just feels....congested. gonna try to persevere.
Thank you very much! I really enjoy filming these projects as well. Please know that I'm very well aware that I'm by no means an expert with this stuff. I like to work on guitars and have been working really hard to expand my skillset and if I can entertain others at the same time, why the hell not?
The newest project video is up. It's a teaser for now, but I hope that Ralph E. finds it enjoyable.
Please post lots of videos for the new project. They're really entertaining and I learn stuff. It's like the Discovery Channel for guitars!
"Dear Dr. Bill,
I work with a woman who is about 5 feet tall and weighs close to 450 pounds and has more facial hair than ZZ Top." - Jack The Riffer
"OK, we can both have Ben..joint custody. I'll have him on the weekends. We could go out in my Cobra and give people the finger..weather permitting of course.." -Bill Z. Bub
The pickup screws? If I had black height screws, sure. I can always black them out, tho. Good idea, thanks! I was also thinking about adding some black DR strings to it.
Thanks man, I'm hoping that I like them too! I keep reminding myself that it's not intended to be a "kill you in the face" sounding guitar, so I'm sure I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm hoping that the piezo bridge will give me some good acoustic tones, too. All I can say is that I'm happy that it plays very well, and I'm really looking forward to Pete's wiring!

Oops! Sorry, Sully. as usual, I didn't choose my words, well. I meant changing out the adjustable pole screws to black ones. I figure it'd help them blend into the guitar, more.
Looks killer man!
I havent been online for a while and I just remembered this guitar and was wondering if you finished it up. So I did a search and found it.
It's nice to see that this old Gibby was resurrected. What did you name it?
Keep up the good work, I always enjoy seeing your projects evolve.

Nah, it still needs to be wired. I'm most likely gonna send it to Pete so he can spare me the headache of wiring a piezo system in with the P-Rails. I'd have an aneurism in 8 minutes if I did it.
thanks for the kind words, and I'll get it finished someday!
next steps will to sand the face and back of the body, fill the extra toggle switch hole, and reshoot the headstock and the body. i'll be using reranch products for the paint; it'll be a little different to work with nitro, but i'm looking forward to it.

You're very much welcome my friend
I hear ya about the 24-3/4 scale my fingers get all cramped up and tangled when playing a short scale as well. It's amazing how that 3/4's of an inch makes a difference isn't it?
The only things I would have done differently would be a Kahler 2300 and a single humbucker/single volume. I'm a minimalist (if that's a word?)
Did you shave the neck down at all to a thinner profile? I didnt catch if you did or not.
Regardless, It turned out great as I knew it would.
Building another Firebird I see, how's that coming along? You gonna start a new thread and post updates? What are your ideas and plans for that so far?

BTW, how's the star? I hope it's still serving you well.

Love it! i still need to put the custom back in the bridge. too busy mixing new songs though.
one of these days i'm gonna have to get you to build me a white Sullybird with a pointy headstock and black hardware. i've already got the specs picked out.

you ain't just whistlin' dixie, my friend.... i'm slowly coming to the realization that i love looking at les pauls more than i love playing them. once i come up with an lp style design, i think it'll be 25.5 scale.

I left the neck shape alone, and with the oiled finish on it, I dig it. It's by no means my favorite neck backshape, but it's workable.
I've actually got two birds going; both will have figured tops, and at least one of them will have a c/s jackson neck on it. One will be a honeyburst like the Dave Hart Firebirds (which I think are the prettiest birds i've seen, ever), and I think the other may have either a blue or purple dyed top.

Hey John,
Glad that it's serving you well, and I'm happy to see you're going back to the custom. Gotta love that pickup. When the time comes, I'll be happy to do a bird for ya, but it'll have to have one of my headstocks on it. If it makes you feel better, I've got 4 good designs for you to choose from (although two of them are 3/3 style, which would be kinda weird).
