  • Can YOU identify this bass?

Just obtained a 5-string bass. Previous owner says it is a Traben. I've got an e-mail dialog going with them, but I'm wondering if it even is a Traben.

Neck-thru 5-string bass with a soap-bar Bartolini bridge pickup and a Bartolini P pickup. Wilkinson 5-string bridge with only the low B through the bridge/body. (the rest of the strings are set into the bridge, the ferrule for the B string seems original or a pro after-market job) The tuners are a set of non-locking sperzels.

I understand that all of these components could be after-market, but I'm fishin' for info...

OK, I got my response from Traben... it's Not a Traben. Not a big surprise there.

    Anyone recognize the headstock?

I know I've seen that headstock somewhere too! Is it perhaps, an MTD? I don't think it is but the headstock is semi-similar so who knows...

Close but no cigar. I signed up on a bass forum on the hopes that someone has seen or owns something like it.

            This is driving me nuts....

It really looks like a Schecter headstock to me.

or maybe not... can you take a closeup of the headstock?

I just finished thumbing through over 900 pages of guitar and bass pictures and the three closest headstocks were Washburn, Clover, and Axtra (stretching it). The squared off horns really have me stumped.

                    Maybe it's home built.

Interesting. The only other bass I've seen with squared off horns is the Musicman Bongo Bass, but it's thicker (and ugly).

The bass pictured above would make me learn the bongos.

The Bongo 5HH is the most versatile bass ever. Bongos rule completely and sound unbelieveable.

Tekky, did you post your pics on Talkbass.com? Someone there should know, that site is enormous.

Bongo basses, as well as anything else Ernie Ball/Musicman, are really nice playing instruments. The Bongo is just ugly as hell!
