  • NOGD - Yamaha RGX1203S

I mentioned a while ago that I'd picked up an RGX1203S for a screaming deal and promised to post pics. Slack-ass me as finally got around to it. And since there is so little discussion about this particular model it would be cool to get some pics of one on here.

research hasn't turned up a lot on these so far, but they are obviously neckthru, made in Taiwan, have the serial stamped on the back of the headstock, MOP inlays on what looks to be an ebony fretboard, bound neck & h/s, 3 propietary single coils, 5-way blade switch, volume, two tones and a mini-switch which seems to cut the output. Coil tap, maybe? Except this doesn't have 'buckers.... hmmmm
it also has a behind-the-nut locking mechanism & the strings feed through the trem before being locked down from above with allen keys. So no clipping the ballends on this puppy!

a spec sheet I found on some of the SE models, including the SE1203S, seems to support a lot of my guesses. Although it's a obviously a different model, so I'm not putting a lot of stock in it.

    anyhoo, on to the pics....

These are phenomenal players! Great find! A good friend of mine had one of these back in high school. Seems like his used active pickups though. I recently found an RGX612s in a local pawn shop for $100.00 with HS case. It was equipped with EMG SA-SA-85. SCORE.

      I found a friend a 1212 in pink for $125 in a pawn shop in the 90's.
I just could not get past that pastel pink color myself.
Here's a catalog scan of it.
      Still, a very nice guitar.

Here's another catalog scan I have of the neck-thru RGX's.

I just picked up a Pacifica 1212 myself, and I was blown away by the quality of it in every aspect.
So, I bought another one, a 912 which is in route.
If no one else wants them that's their lose.
Currently at 78 guitars - Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Robin, Washburn, Carvin, Peavey, U.S. Masters, G&L, Hamer, Godin, BC Rich, Yamaha, Fender, ESP, Kramer, Cort, Ibanez, Aria Pro & Charvel

I saw an RGX820 at a local music store for $130 modded with EMG's. I regret not buying that guitar, it came with a case and everything and was in superb shape.

Do any of you know the difference in the RGX820 and the previously mentioned models. The only difference I notice is that it didn't have a painted neck (same heel bolt-thingy though) and it had dot inlays with a logo at the 12th fret.

wow, thanks for posting the scans, mrrs! I've had little luck finding much info online about these guitars. Those higher end Pacificas are sweet guitars. A few years back a JCFer was trumpeting the virtues of them and owned quite a few, IIRC.

Ben, I don't know much about the 820s, but the 1200 series above are all neckthru

I'm talking about the mrrs's post with the first ad with 1212's in it. You'll note in the bottom right it talks about how the 600 series has a new bolt-on heel style. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about that.

Yeah. Yamahas are some under-rated guitars. Provided you can find one that hasn't been screwed with by some teenage buffoon who was more into defacing it than playing it, you can score a REALLY good deal.

I just picked up an AES-620HB at a pawn shop a couple of days ago- it's a Les Paul-like chambered body, made in Korea. It's a totally bitchin' guitar- loads of sustain, and light-as-heck, too. You could say that I'm now a Yamaha convert. LOL

Cool. I remember the ads for those back in the day and wanted one.
