  • Steinberger Gr-4 Newburgh NY(1991)

Wow. I found an old Newburgh NY model today and I can't believe how good it plays. It is a player with dings and all but not to bad. Mostly on the backside.

The frets are in pretty good shape and it is a tobacco sunburst maple body. the neck is of course graphite.

It has the Duncan pickups in it.

Very impressed with the guitar. Plays so effortless and is so light.

I can get past the headless look this one is a keeper. Sounds great and the easiest guitar I have ever played.

It came with the original gig bag and a ton of unused strings to boot. Also got the tremolo bar.

I would post pics but y'all know what they look like.

I've always wanted to try one but have never gotten the chance. I hear the new ones aren't good (does Hohner own them now?) but I've always heard good stuff about the older models. I watched some demonstrations by Ned Steinberger on youtube a while back (they looked like they were maybe from the 80s?). He showed how unbelievably easy it was to change strings on the floating trem. It took just seconds to change and retune. Sounds like you got a great guitar.

I want it. Should have never sold the one I owned. Regretted it the day it left.
I am a 100% whammy player and it was perfect.
I even spoke to Ned personally about it. He even sent me some spare parts for it back then. What a bone head for selling it.

Yeah if you are a whammy guy then these are awesome. It is so smooth and effortless.

The pickups in it are a custom custom and 2 hotrails form the info I have gathered. Position 2 and 4 on the 5 way switch are excellent for blues and cleans. I am really digging it so far. I might end up selling a few of my others because this one would just replace the need to have them../

The only downside is parts are hard to come by and are getting pricey...

I wouldnt count on those Strings being very lively ! Cool Score..
ive seen them go for $3400.00 It's easily worth $1800 for sure.
Ive played em back in the day...and those necks are great! Never
                going to warp either..:-))

Wow really? I paid well under a grand out the door for this one... It has lots of wear on the body but it looks good from 3 ft away. Most of the wear is on the back and it is mostly buckle rash like what you would see on a Les Paul... Wow. Great score for me!

$3400 would probably be the L series (boat oar).

Steinbergers are super cool. I have a GM4T that's fun as hell, especially with the Trans Trem, but sadly I haven't played it in forever. I'm actually thinking of selling it b/c I feel bad that it sits in my closet.

                      Lots of info here:
