It's as if they were trying to borrow ideas/parts from three generations of Vs. If you remember, the V2 was sculpted and it was NOT a huge success. Then they borrowed the late 60's headstock (minus the tuners), and then they got all modern and dropped a tone knob. By the way, to my knowledge, Gibson never used that inlay pattern on a Flying V.
Actually, after thinking about it, the inlays look exactly like the Gibson 1979 25/50 Anniversary Les Paul. Matter of fact, I seem to remember that the body color of the 1979 LP is the same as this new V.
