So make sure its not cracking at that point.

I have an '81. It will probably follow me to the crematorium when the time comes...
It hasn't turned green, but it *has* taken a yellowish glow; what I'd expect of a 27-year-old finish.
The "Easystring" tuners rock! I don't know why they stopped using them; unless guys left the winding lever out and fell of the stage... (there's a guy on 'bay selling repros; I'm very tempted to buy a set).
Like any guitar, your mileage may vary...WarPig____________________________________________

Guys, remember when we could buy LPs all day long for about $300...if we only knew!!! My old best friend bought a new LP custom silverburst. He fucked it up putting his first kahler on it..we were about 16 years old. He srilled and installed it a bit off center..that wasn't good. Then he did something even worse IMO. He sold that to buy a brand new Explorer 2, or E2 I guess they called them. THAT was my favorite Explorer ever. Man, was it nice. It was laminated with very light maple over dark walnut. This one had bevels around the edges and outline with that dark walnut. It didn't have a pickgaurd and it came with gold hardware including the pup covers. I never seen another one like in my life. It was heavy as hell and sounded what I thought was amazing that time. That tool did the same thing to that guitar, this time he put the kahler on right, but it ruined the tone of it...and the kahler was chrome, with the funky short bar.
Here's a pick of the E2, but this one is darker, without the bevels and it has a pickgaurd. I check every now and then on the bay just to see if I can find one.. I never did.
Speak of the devil..

Those tuners were cool. The other guitar player in my band had an 81 LPC in wine red with those and ive wanted them ever since. Way cool. I think they only made them 81-83. IIRC. I may have to look into those repros on ebay for the Silver Burst Std im pickin up.
