If it's the 75-80 year model, that's an awesome score. Silverburst became fairly popular on the V2, especially on the boomerang humbucker model. Post a pic, I'd love to see it!

Gibson stopped making pancakes in 1976, so if Silverburst started in 78, there shouldn't be a pancake version of one.

Those are stock, and fairly rare too. Just a couple of years or so. You would have the "Dude, check this out" factor

Just got off the phone with them and it was sold to someone earlier for 2grand. That was a hell of a deal if it was in good condition.

            Thanks for the heads up.

I have an '81. It will probably follow me to the crematorium when the time comes...

It hasn't turned green, but it *has* taken a yellowish glow; what I'd expect of a 27-year-old finish.

The "Easystring" tuners rock! I don't know why they stopped using them; unless guys left the winding lever out and fell of the stage... (there's a guy on 'bay selling repros; I'm very tempted to buy a set).

Like any guitar, your mileage may vary...

I am currently working on getting a 81 and the thing is in mint condition. There is no discoloration under the pickguard either. It is going to cost me a little over 3 grand though so I have not pulled the trigger yet.

My bandmates LP Silverburst has those tuners too. Maybe his isn't a 1981 and its an 1983.

Guys, remember when we could buy LPs all day long for about $300...if we only knew!!! My old best friend bought a new LP custom silverburst. He fucked it up putting his first kahler on it..we were about 16 years old. He srilled and installed it a bit off center..that wasn't good. Then he did something even worse IMO. He sold that to buy a brand new Explorer 2, or E2 I guess they called them. THAT was my favorite Explorer ever. Man, was it nice. It was laminated with very light maple over dark walnut. This one had bevels around the edges and outline with that dark walnut. It didn't have a pickgaurd and it came with gold hardware including the pup covers. I never seen another one like in my life. It was heavy as hell and sounded what I thought was amazing that time. That tool did the same thing to that guitar, this time he put the kahler on right, but it ruined the tone of it...and the kahler was chrome, with the funky short bar.

Here's a pick of the E2, but this one is darker, without the bevels and it has a pickgaurd. I check every now and then on the bay just to see if I can find one.. I never did.

I will have a silverburst someday. They sound great. I Had my buddies '81 for a while, still trying to talk him into selling it to me (it is in the Bay area too, hope it's not the same one AK47). The greener the better, such a cool look!

I've seen 78's with the pancake body. Maybe it was a left over body but the serial said 78. I agree if hes lookin at an 81 it still doesnt apply. However just a thought none the less.

Those tuners were cool. The other guitar player in my band had an 81 LPC in wine red with those and ive wanted them ever since. Way cool. I think they only made them 81-83. IIRC. I may have to look into those repros on ebay for the Silver Burst Std im pickin up.
