How come Hamer can still make the Standard?

    How come Hamer can still make the Standard?

    So this has been buggin me - why can Hamer continue to make the Standard, a guitar which is really an exact copy of the Explorer. How can Hamer get away with it and ESP, Jackson, etc. cannot?

    Or for that matter, how about the Vector? My guess is that sales are low enough that Gibson doesn't worry about it.

    I used to have a Standard Custom. Cool guitar. I currently have a 1997 Vector from the limited production run of 72.

      the numbers producded are very low and they are priced high enough not to threaten gibson's sales of explorer's or V's....
      GEAR:

      some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

      some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

      and finally....

      i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

        That's a good question considering KMC (Kaman) owns Hamer and FMIC owns KMC.

          The pay a license fee to gibson, and have since they started.
          I think if they had tried to license this shape about 10 years later then they did, it would have never happened.

          The started the Standard back in the 70's before they became popular.

            FMIC didn't buy KMC until last year, so that would make sense that a prior license agreement would still be in place.
            I wonder if it will get renewed?

                The Standard is just so meaty. and the QC is spot on.

                    It's disappointing, but, I don't think they have changed anything yet.
                    Get them while they are still good.
