What is the quality like on new USA Deans and BC Richs?
yes it's got a V neck profile in pretty close to awesome shape, all original chrome hardware, close to Dime's original in serial # original case! fuckin Brazillian rosewood fretboard, I have to sell it too to make some cash for my new amp comin
Love it though, the original Dimarzio SD's are amazing!
Peace
C
Thats exactly what I'd be after in a dean. Except a little beat up.
Anyone else??? I am also interested in the feel and quality of one of the Custom Michael Schenker models with the block inlays and $3500.00 price tag.
I had one of the first ten on order. Matter of fact, I was supposed to get #2. I waited and waited and waited and finally the dealer calls me and says my guitar is ready to be shipped. I said "that's #2 correct?" and he said "uhm, we shipped that one to another person by mistake, how about #21?" I replied with "how about you sending my money back!!!!"
As you probably know, when a small run of custom guitars is made, numbers one through ten are most sought after. I was really pissed when the owner of #2 posted a picture of it here at the JCF. Wasn't pissed at him, just at the dealer!
Come to find out, after looking at the pictures, the multiple binding on the body was crooked as shit! My dog could have crapped a line straighter! So, if you find one, check that bad boy from top to bottom. If I remember correctly, the bottom horn on the body was where most of the QC issues were most abundant. Several weeks after I got my money back, I was able to score this GMW Michael Schenker V built to the exact specifications of his 1979 model at a fraction of what Dean was charging for their model.
I had one of the 2005 Dime from Hell reissues and thought it was very well made, except the fret ends were kind of sharp and needed smoothing. I eventually sold it, but I thought the neck played very well and I like the ML body shape, too. Haven't tried any Deans since then, though.
I played a USA Dean Hardtail in the store a couple of years ago that was freakin' god-like. It was $3,000+, so no way I could afford it, unfortunately.
Dean USA guitars were mostly made by Wilkinson guitars in past years so they were pretty good quality. Now that Dean guitars is in house and Dean Z left I have heard the quality has really slipped.
Actually, all the Dean USA guitars up until the new in-house custom shop were made by US Masters, not Wilkinson. I have one of the 150 USA DFH Customs, great guitar, very well built.
I've always been intrigued by BC Rich guitars but between all the fake BS, Made in Mexico, Japanese neck-thru models that look like USA's and Ed Roman fakes, I've never felt comfortable enough to buy them.
