  • PRS Singlecut with trem?

A guy I work with has a PRS Singlecut before they became the SC20. He says it's Emerald (trans over figured maple) and has a trem. A quick scan of Ebay shows not too many of these with the trem.

He is looking to sell and asked if I knew anyone looking as if!

Anyhoo, how rare are Pre-Tremonti Singlecuts with trems?

Was that before they got sued by Gibson? If so, I would say pretty rare...

If they changed the model designation from Singlecut to SC250 after the lawsuit, then it's pre-lawsuit. He bought it new and said he has only played it a handfull tof times at home - never gigged.

Not sure what he paid (he didn't state a specific $$, just "quite a bit"). What would one go for in Mint condition with no visible fretwear?

He's bringing me pics when we go back to work on the 5th, but I'd like to have a ballpark figure for him (aside from "$3-$3000 depending on condition" )

He's also got a Fireburst LP Studio. Is that a rare/desireable finish?
Anyone know what those usually go for?

i'm not a prs expert, but a pre lawsuit, pre tremonti single cut with trem is rare.
i heard that there might be a body thickness difference between the singlecut vs sc250, so that might be worth checking out.
as for collectability/value, i'm not sure if it is worth that much of a premium.

I don't think they were ever really considered "rare"; I know they made a lot more of them then they did the Custom 22 Soapbar (they only made about 500 of those in the original run). When they were in production they were called either the "Singlecut Trem" or "SC Trem". It was available both pre-lawsuit and post-lawsuit alongside the regular Singlecut. They were discontinued along with the "regular" Singlecut a couple of years ago when they brought out the SC-250 and SC-245 models. Those changes had nothing to do with the Gibson lawsuit as the original Singlecut and SC Trem were made for a few years after it was settled; it was just PRS revamping their lineup.

I had an SC Trem for a while; sold it off about 6 months before the lawsuit hit and prices temporarily went up (always my luck; don't ask me for stock advice ). The SC Trem was thinner than the the other SC models; it was basically a single cutaway shaped McCarty (roughly the same depth, same master volume/master tone with coil split) but every one I ever played seemed to have a somewhat slimmed down (or maybe "small shouldered" is a better description) variation of the wide/fat neck.

              Thanks for the input

Here's the pics he brought me. They're all real blurry except the body shot
