  • A Few Upcoming Projects

I've shared with you the Warmoth projects I've done and now have a few more irons in the fire.

First, there is a Strat neck in my closet collecting dust that needs a body. It is a simple quartersawn maple with ebony FB and cream dots and gold frets. I found this in the Screamin' Deals section as a great match. It is a mahogany body with a flame meranti top.

    Neck:

    Body, front and back:

I've also been wanting to build one of their VIP models for a while (for those who don't know, this is their PRS-inspired body); they are carved tops. This is what the body shape looks like:

I didn't want to do the traditional flame or quilt maple, however. Recently, they got in some camphor burl, which I personally think is killer and unique. Here is a sample of what the raw laminate looks like:

I'm actually making two of these. Both bodies are black korina, and will have black binding, and will be clear coated, front and back.

Here are the necks for the two camphor burl VIPs.

Zebrawood with bloodwood stringers, ebony fretboard, and MOP dots:

And Imbuia (brazillian walnut) with brazillian rosewood fretboard and MOP dots:

All of the above has been ordered. The meranti Strat was out of the showcase, so it should be here in a week or two. The camphor burl VIPs were custom ordered, so we're looking at about 8 to 12 weeks.

Finally, I always wanted to do an over-the-top V2 (RR-inspired).

It will have a 5A quilt laminate top finished in a bengal burst, like this Les Paul body (no binding):

The body will be mahogany and the back finished with trans red. For the neck, it will be the Jackson-inspired headstock on a Padouk neck and a canary fingerboard.

    Padouk sample:

    Fingerboard:

The headstock will also have a quilt veneer and will be finished in matching bengal burst. Black sharkfin inlays to go with black hardware. Single humbucker and volume control. OFR.

    Any thoughts?

You are correct. I am a General Surgeon. My career, while not entirely recession-proof, is somewhat recession-resistant.

Now is the best time to buy, if you can. You'll lose less on depreciation than you will in the market.

Cool, there's 2 Doctors on this board now:
                  DocNrock and Dr.Newcenstein

The V is my fav out of your projects for sure. It'll look killer w/ that quilt top on it.

With that said... please post updated pics on all those killer guitars you are going to build.

The only thing keeping me from buying is money.

Sorry to hear that. Didn't mean to rub salt in anyone's proverbial wounds. That said, I'll post completed pics.

The V hasn't even been ordered yet. I'm still debating trans red or trans yellow for the back. And I'm still debating mahogany vs. swamp ash.

Man, I'm like a kid! I can hardly wait to see the results. I am interested in how the bolt on LP is going to turn out. If the neck nestles into the neck joint like my Strat, it'll be as good if not better than any set neck LP.

P.S. You'd de damned hard pressed to find a prettier chunk of wood than what's pictured above. With the quality components Warmoth puts out, it just doesn't make sense to spend twice, maybe three times as much on major brands and their custom shop nonsense. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.

I'm not doing the LP. I just posted that as it is the same finish that will be done on the quilt-topped V2.
