  • ESP eclipse neck??

Hey people, can anyone tell me how the ESP eclipse neck plays? Hoping they aren't as thick as the Les Paul necks and a bit more playable for mere mortals like me. Was thinking of picking one up, there's a few of them on my side of the pond for good prices.

I haven't played a Les Paul proper, but I have an ESP Eclipse II and previously owned another one. The neck is definitely not thick, but it is also not Ibanez thin either. I am pretty much a Jackson person and the ESP Eclipse II neck is very comfortable. Going from a WR1 or a SLATQH neck to the ESP is not a problem at all. On a side note, my hands are on the smaller side, so neck size/shape is very important to me.

Thanks man, I have a WR - 1 myself so that was a handy bit of info. Don't have a string thru guitar at the moment which is what has me interested in one of these, plus the finish on them is very nice. Can you get a nice low action on it?

Knowing that you have a WR1 too I'll do more of a head to head comparison of the necks when I have time. In terms of action there was a little variance between the two I had. The one I sold was the satin honeyburst and the action was great from the get go. The one I have now is vintage white satin (for the Randy vibe) with EMGs and the action is not quite as good without buzzing, but still very acceptable. I really like the satin finish on those... nice and smooth without being unfinished.

I'm assuming you're on about the newer Les Paul shaped Eclipse and not the older Tele shaped one.

I can talk about the older one and that has a neck like a tree trunk. I love it.
Fwopping, you know you want to!

Yeah, I'm talking about the new one's, didn't know they used to make tele shaped guitars at all!!! Cool.

I had an Eclipse of some sort - it played great. As I remember the neck had a similar shape to the 60's Gibson style, but it was thinner...

I did a quick comparison this weekend... The WR-1 felt slightly wider and a touch less thick in depth, but there wasnt much difference between the two. I put my calipers to measure the neck width and the ESP measured 43 mm at the nut, 53 mm at the 12th fret. The Jackson measured 44 and 53. There was maybe 1 mm difference in depth at the 12th fret.
