Just a rumor that a friend told me... Ed is going to be leaving Fender (imagine that ) and that Ed, Floyd Rose, and Paul Unkert (old time Kramer builder) are going to be getting together  There's more to the story, but I won't go any farther... It almost makes sense considering the EVH logo above the Floyd Rose logo on the Wolfgang... I don't know how true this is, but my guy does work in the industry... So who knows
As far as the "new" Wolfang... Sorry but I already own three Peavey Wolfs, so Ed won't be seeing any money from me this time

Ed, Floyd and Paul Unkert? Interesting if true... but whatever they might come out with would probably be 4K.

Wait... I just did a quick search and found out that Paul Unkert is back from retirement and built a guitar for Ed in late 2007. Might be the source of the rumors... or incidental evidence for their new venture, depending on how you look at it.

sorry fan-boys, but EVH is a money grubbing prick. the peavey was SO much more affordable and looks the same except for having a better headstock....
+1 and again for that greedy Les Paul and his overpriced guitars.
+2 for Peter Frampton and his $4,700 LP
+10 for Yoko and her $5k Lennon LP Special

seriously, its just business...more power to them.

I put in my order early this week. I ended up inking the deal for hundreds less than the MF price. What's all the fuss about? #1 Online mega-retailers are always high. #2 [New] Artist sig stuff is always priced higher....Slash LP $4k+, Zakk LP $4k+, Hammet ESP$2k+, you-name-it.

Let me say this then you can all take your shots. I've HAVE NEVER EVER been disappointed by a piece of Eddie Van Halen designed gear. NEVER! Great, I have to pay an extra $500 for his name, but the guy puts his stones behind what he designs. Okay, fine, he's a nut but a nut with a method [or meth-od problem]. Anyone want to disput the fact that he knows his shit and he'll push everything past the limit? 12.

No, that's a cool guitar. If Eddie signs off on it, the least I can do is look at it objectively. I can't say I'm going to gush all over it, but I know he's not just pimping his name. Can Slash or Zakk or Page or Hammett or dead Hendrix [estate] say that? Nope!

              I'm confused now
No confusion; they haven't officially released a guitar with the "Dropped to Hell" bridge. The ones on the EVH Gear website are the white, black and sunburst finish models with the "signature" Floyd Rose bridge (with D-Tuna). You need to pick up the Guitar World magazine; that's the only place I've seen the Frankenstein-striped Wolfgang prototype with the Dropped To Hell bridge is in the 2-page photo at the start of the article. EVH is holding the white one, and the sunburst, black, and Frankie-striped ones are on stands in the background. The copy I bought had the sunburst one on the cover. You know, now that I think of it maybe you could only get the magazine with the Frankie-striped prototype on the cover if you bought that ridiculous "collector's package" of 4 copies of the magazine with the 4 different covers.

I think it's fair to say that Page can.
His sigs were late to the table, and, while expensive were unique to him.
I mean the later ones, not the 1st run that Page disagreed with Gibson on.

You haven't seen his stuff go downmarket like Slash and Zakk's did.

As for the new EVH's. I'm not bitching about the price, but, I'm more interested in the hardtail if I was to look at these.

I don't think Les is the problem over at Gibson.
I agree on yoko but raised to the 10th power.

Congrats on the Eddie. I'm sure its good. You should be geeked about something you buy. it should excite YOU.
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?

                    Holy smokes.

Maybe they're charging full list price for pre-orders?

What cracks me up is there's little dif. in price between
the solid colors and the quilt top. WTF?

It doesn't appear that the burst models have "killer tops"; they are maybe an AA to AAA top - just a decent naturally-quilted top. The black and white also have maple tops so the probably take the best looking ones (after they're cut and buffed out) for the burst finish and just paint over the others.

I know this will get me a couple bashes being a Jackson/Charvel forum but, the Kramer 5150 Pacer is Ed's guitar and always will be. Red/White/Black with the oversized hockey head stock. If he was a smart business man he would have churned out the Frankie's and 5150's as semi limited runs at reasonable prices (say $1000 - $1500). With that business plan he would never have to worry again about copy write stuff or his retirement fund. Everything that followed is just a attempt on Ed's part to recapture what slipped through his fingers 20+ years ago.
                          Turn that Sh......... down!

                            Grumpy,
I agree with you totally. Reasonably priced VH1, Bumblebees, and Frankenstrats ($1500) would have saved Ed a lot of crap. At that price, small time builders wouldn't be able to competitively sell copies and people would have been more than happy to pay the price for an authentic EVH. I mean really its a paint job!! I understand there are a lot of hands that have to be paid before it reaches the consumer, but its a paint job!!! It will be interesting to see how this years EVH guitars sell (along with the EVH strings, EVH cables, EVH shirts, EVH pickups, EVH hair care products, EVH toilet paper, EVH dog food, etc.).

+1 all the way Really, how many people are copying a Wolfgang?? I have seen a few, but not many... How many people copy the Frankies and 5150's....A hell of a lot. It may have to do with the fact, that it's a simple guitar, with a paint job that isn't hard to duplicate. But yet it would sell, and does.
I have a Wolfgang (Peavey) and it is a great guitar. I play it on a daily basis, along with a few other guitars. Will I be going out and buying a new Wolfgang? No... Would I buy a 5150 that was reasonabley priced (not a parts mutt)? You bet!
