  • Just bought this neck.

Needed to get motivated to finish some projects, so I bought this to kick myself in the pants.

For the price I couldn't go wrong. I have a body waiting for a neck, and figured I'd give it a shot. Might have to do a level & polish, but no biggie.

    Whaddya think?

I haven't routed the neck pocket yet, so that won't be an issue.

I just got it, and I gotta say, I'm really quite impressed. The heel is square, like an Ibanez heel, with no overhang. So for my project, I'll have to route the body to suit, or alter the neck heel. The scarf joint is identical to a standard Jackson joint. The fretboard is rosewood, and although a tad dry looking, it's got a nice grain, and is nice and smooth. The fretwork is pretty damn good. I checked it with a straightedge, and can't find any low or high spots. The fret ends are nicely filed too. The binding is the cheap ABS stuff, and needed a light scraping and sanding to get the file marks and residue off, but it loos and feels great now. The headstock is similar to a Jackson, but slightly wider towards the end, and is very slightly more angled. The back of the neck has a nice satin finish on it, and is a shallow C shape similar to a 60s LP slim taper.

The only real negative here is that the locking nut shelf has not been cut. There is a zero fret slot where the shelf would begin, but it has not been routed. I suppose it's not a big deal, as it will take me all of ten minutes to chisel it out.

Here are a couple of pics:

I'm supposed to be finishing projects, but here I go again starting new ones. Although, I guess since I already had the body started, it was already a project, and I just got closer to finishing it. YAY ME!!
