  • to keep or not to keep...

Someone convince me that I'm nuts...I have a 1996 (50th anniv) black standard strat with maple fretboard. I've been thinking about getting rid of it. Here's my dilemma...the guitars I'm wanting to trade for it will not hold their value like the strat will. Single coils just don't do it for me, I'm stuck in the eighties. I could just drop a stacked hum in it but then it wouldn't be a strat (silly, I know). Guitars I'm considering are...

    New pro Charvel
SL-3 (preferably newer one with OFR)
Dk2 (with graphics, and/or a really nice one with case)
New Gunslinger (any of the 3)
    Dk2m (with case)
LP (maybe one of the cheaper MF studio models)
or maybe some kind of tube amp like a mesa f-30, etc.

    What should I do???
I still keep practicing though.... Mostly because I hate my neighbors.-MakeAJazzNoiseHere

You could hang on to the Strat, and it may well keep it's value. But if you're not gonna be playing it, what's the point? You'll just have an expensive ornament taking up closet space. Get yourself a new Charvel and enjoy the shit out of it! I know I would...

You could trade me for a Red Ghost Flames DK2M.
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

My friend used to has one of those, fucking amazing, if you don't use it you might as well sell it, you could get a pretty penny out there.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking of putting it on the classifieds here, just wanted to get some opinions on it. I might try to sell it, then buy something different. I was thinking that maybe a used sl3 might be worth about the same. Not sure. I really like the new gunslingers and pro Charvels too.

Strats are cool because you can swap out loaded pickguards to get new sounds. I just did a build with Dimarzio YJM/HS2/HS3 stacked single coils. They are hot enough to do hard rock, but still have that twangy strat sound. Just throwing that out there as an option.

I thought about doing that too...I always wanted an Yngwie strat. I'm kinda leaning towards something with a little flatter fretboard radius.

Whelp...definitely not going to get that with a strat...

Do whatever your inner voice tells you to do. To me strats and Les Pauls can come and go because there are a lot of them out there. Good Jacksons and Charvels are not as easy to obtain, that is why they are a better guitar to really hang on to. They have a more intense vibe as well. Then again quadperson, you could buy an Allparts 1hum/1knob pickguard for $20, a Dimarzio F Spaced Tone Zone or Super Distortion for $60 to $80 and a 500k or 1 meg pot for about $5 to $8 and your strat would take on a whole new persona. Kind of like gettin' a new suit. Oh yeah- add some Graphtech saddles and that sucker will really growl.

I didn't realize it was so dirty, lol. There is a small ding on lower horn and a hairline crack in neck pocket. The flash really brought those out, they don't look bad in good light. I think the neck pocket crack is just in the finish.

The ding is not through to the wood, that's the flash.

Route it out for Super Distortion pickups.
                              Install a floyd.
                              Then it would rock.
