  • Original pickup in a old Gunslinger?

I have a '89(?) Gunslinger (one of the very last before the Class Axe days, I'm told). I don't remember what the original pickup is. It's a Dimarzio, but doesn't have a model # on it. It's a 4 conductor, and I think I had heard it was a Dual Sound, but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

    Thanks,
    Pat

I know...I really need to get pics of my 'collection' (it's nothing compared to what a lot of you guys have, though). I'll see what I can find.

markD, was yours marked DP100, or is there some way of telling which model it is by just looking at it?

dmarzio dual sound(four conductor super D) or double whammy. double whammy had black poles, dual sound chrome. IIRC the double whammy became one of the ToneZones.

One of mine had a DiMarzio super D and one had a Schaller both were original and 88's.
              Really? well screw Mark Twain.

A buddy of mine had a very early 'slinger, which came with a black plastic cover over the pickup. When we lifted it, we found some real old beat-up unit. It had DiMarzio wiring, but no markings on the base. Big solid (rusty) non-adjustable polepieces. Presumably someone at BC had it kicking around in their bits-box. Sounded great though!

Thanks for the info j2379...sounds like I have the double whammy (black poles)...I was hoping it was a Dual Sound.

                  Thanks,

sign up for photobucket or some other online image host provider.

                          Upload your pictures there.

                          Then provide a link here to those pictures using the [ i m g ] and [ / i m g ] tags.

Or, if you get free web space from your ISP, upload your pictures to your own web space.

I guess I could throw a little history in here as well...I ordered this new in 88 or 89 (it's an 89) for $900 plus an estimate of $250 for the graphic. I sent in my Joker T shirt and a comic book (for the logo) along with a little sketch to show the green and white spiral in the background. The guy at the music store said they were putting thier top guy on it and he was excited to get started on it. That 'guy' happened to be Dan Lawrence. When it came back, they wanted $750 for the graphic! Hell, I was only 16 or 17, so that was quite a stretch...I think I talked them down to $450 for the graphic ($1350 total)...Seems like a lot of cash for 1989! When I went to pick it up, the guy at the music store told me it was one of the very last BC Rich's to make it out of the factory before they closed. He also said the closing had something to do with people performing witchcraft or some wacky shit like that...not sure how true any of that is, hahaha.

I've seen this graphic on two other guitars, and this was verified by Lee at GMW. I think one was a Jackson JJ 5 string, and the other is the Kramer that another member here had refinished

                              Now that's just a killer.

There was something special about those old Gunslingers - nothing else played like them. Maybe the guys at the BC plant were practicing witchcraft...
