My mother's uncle Stan was a test pilot in WWII, and flew P-40s. Sadly, he died in a P-40 crash.

I had a former patient who flew both the P-40 and the P-51. He said that the P-40 was a blast on take-off and pretty nimble in the air. However, he said that landing the P-40 was a crap shoot! He said it was like trying to land a freight train with dragonfly wings. Apparently, they were quite nose heavy.
