  • RG 550 find

Went to GC to get some banjo strings and found this 92 RG 550 in flip flop purple.V7/S1/V8 all original and played to death.
I'm a sucker for maple/maple necks so home it came.
Cleaned up adjusted, new strings and she's a rocker.
Not a bad score for $250.00 no case but I had a new Ibanez case just for this very reason in my case stash.I knew a 550 would crop up eventually.Mirror pickguard too.
F2 so I assume 92 it has the angled neck plate.

    that's cool!
I miss my 550 I had, but still have an old S540 in desert yellow! I love the old Ibanez guitars!

    that's a sweet score!

    Peace!

First flip flop purple one I've seen in a while.Damn fine player too. They had $375.00 on the tag but my usual sales person said it needs some work and its right up your alley you can have it for $250.00.I didn't jump on it and two kids were checking it out and one said to his buddy "dude its banged up and the neck has some bad spots and out of tune I wouldn't want it".
So I walked over and picked it up found an amp plugged it in asked my bud for an allen wrench unlocked the nut, tuned it to pitch, locked her down, fine tuned it and cranked the amp and let her rip for a minute or two.
The two kids sat there saying it don't sound bad I looked at them and said this bitch is a ripper for sure just needs a little work.
One said here let me try it I told him too late son its going home with me.
I love to mess with the young'uns.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

lovely! I've always wanted one of those but not so bad that I'll pay the prices they command over here. For $250, you'd be lucky to find a half-decent RG270 around here
        Hail yesterday

No DX marking just RG 550 Made in Japan.I thought the DX were Korean.
Nothing neon at all about the paint just flip flop metallic purple.
The edge trem is is very good shape a little minor pitting not bad considering its a 92 and has lots of playing time, nice frets too didn't need any fretwork at all.

I bought one similar to that from A1 in Manchester in 1996, I think I paid £750 for it. It had the rosewood board and the lightning(?) inlays. Same colour with mirror pick guard. I couldn't get it to stay in tune, so I attempted to swap it for a Citroen BX diesel...couldn't get that to stay in gear, so swapped back and eventually got 300 quid for it and a crap classical. Don't know where the classical or the £300 went...I've got a lot of history of deals that go tits up...

Was in GC in Orlando last Tuesday checking it out and found a beat down orangish RG550. Pickups had surface rust and they only wanted $499 for it! WTF

Yes, I could have talked the guy down, but I just don't get that warm fuzzy feeling dealing with that place. I went over to Sam Ash and I don't think they have cleaned thier stuff in a loooooong time. Surprisingly, you can find the Soloist & high end ESP stuff out where anyone can grab them up, but yet the PRS, Fenders & Les Pauls are pretty much all behind the counter. They had some UV's and a JEM, but nothing like this find.

                            GREAT Job!
Still want a 550 in DY for some crazy reason.
