I guess we all know about it, those players who have guitars for home and studio use and guitars for stage use and seldom or never use them for other purposes.
Examples are Jimmy Page's double neck Gibson, he bought that guitar to use on live renditions of "The rain song" and of course "Stairway" Or Brian May's John Birch' built "Blonde special" which was commissioned as a live back up for his home made "Red Special" guitar. It never got used in the studio.
In my case, my self built red explorer is my for live use only guitar.
Made last year using left over pieces of walnut and maple and an old Strat neck, this number features a Washburn double locking vibrato (no routing required) and GFS pickups, it's as basic as they come and yet it sounds amazing when I use it live. But for some reason I haven't used it in the studio or on home recordings. I don't know why but this workhorse is a live use only guitar.
