I think you cats missed my point. That's OK. You buy your Epis and I'll continue to buy my Gibs. Hopefully, we'll both be happy.

Honestly, what the difference between Gibson and Epiphone?

I buy generic Klonopin, but I buy GHS strings from Ebay. As far as I know, Walmart does not sell strings. I have several vehicles. I think one of them is about a 1960's, but it is a grain truck, so it does not count. I have had a 1970 Gibson Les Paul and it played FANTASTIC! In the 90's, I went into a guitar center and tried out some of the bare-bone, budget-minded Gibson Les Paul's. Their necks were different, their feel was totally different, and the sound was not that great. I still think an Ibby Les Paul is better than an Epi, plus you get a phaser switch with it. I have owned an Epi, though. Everybody needs something to break every now and then.Last edited by john.w.lawson; 04-17-2009, 10:35 AM.I know the old saying that the value of an opinion is generally inversely proportional to the strength with which it is held.

Wait till Gibson starts bringing in overseas parts through the back door from their "ugly step sister" Epiphone and do the final setup and logo here and stamp it USA like the automakers do in order to save a few more bucks on the bottom line and still charge you full price. They have done it with the new 'USA' Kramers and thought nothing of charging people a grand for nothing more than an import with a made in US sticker. If they are doing it on one brand they will do it on everything.
As others have said here buy what feels good and you can afford without eating Mac n Cheese for the rest of the month.

Second to that is assuming that a lesser-priced guitar couldn't POSSIBLY top a more expensive one. You guys that are so sold on brandname or the price=quality equation, you wanna keep living that scenario in your head? Great. I'll continue laughing at ya.

If we are going on the thought that less expensive guitars are imports and therefore less quality then that would make GIBSON, FENDER,JACKSON USA, WAYNE, SHUR, and many other USA guitars complete crap to anyone that doesn't live in the USA since they are all "imports" to any other country
I have embarrased more than one headstock snob in my shop by simply putting a sock over the headstocks of Gibsons, Epiphones, Fenders and others and telling them to play them without removing the sock. 99% of these so called self proclaimed experts at instantly distinguishing guitars simply by feel and tone can't tell the difference.

Maybe their senses were dulled by your stinky sock or maybe their first thought was "Why is this crazy person putting socks on a guitar?" Were the socks argyle? Or just regular tube socks? Their is a difference, you know, in quality.I know the old saying that the value of an opinion is generally inversely proportional to the strength with which it is held.

IMHO (most think I'm a snob anyway but here goes.
Look, saying a Suhr is an "import" to Canada is just off the map argument-wise.
The point is that A strat, a tele, a les Paul, and SG, a 335, a PRS, etc.
WE KNOW WHAT THESE ARE, WE KNOW WHO MAKES THEM, and HOW.
When you don't know how, by whom, or what it is made of then we DON"T TRULY KNOW WHAT IT IS. Like SPAM.
Copies of the originals are copies. Imported copies of the originals are copies. No matter how good they are (and some are damned fine).
Old original Schecters are Strat copies, made here, of quality parts.Same for old Charvels but hot-rodded. I say that to say this...
Epis can be great, but they can't be Gibsons. I can't stand Gibson snobs who think a Gibby is better just because it says Gibson on it. What a bunch of over-spending maroons. But, the EPI has to PROVE it is worthy of comparison-not the other way around. The copy has to prove it is as good as the original...not once or twice, but over and over and over ...if you got a good epi or bad gibson..so what....but what is the "rule" between the two? IS the Gibby worth the size of the price upcharge? I don't think so, BUT I'm not throwing away 8 bills on an Epi I can't unload (at gunpoint) for half that. There's your verdict. Same goes for So-Cals, same goes for MEX Fender, and same goes for those Dean Dimebag Dummies.
Y'know what holds value used pretty good as an import low line? PRS SE.
And BTW, Gibson already uses MIJ hardware on its US production guitars. Check out your bridge and tailpiece. If you want a Gibson, great (I have 5). They're "different" , but not necessarily "better" than other guitars I have. Besides, for build quality Gibson has been getting kicked in the teeth by PRS for over 20 years, and for the 15 before that Gibson has nothing to brag about either. it ain't about embarassing a snob, its about good instruments at a fair price. IMHO.Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?

That has to be one of the 20 funniest lines in all of movie history, and one hell of a fine performance by John Cleese. Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?
