  • Now that the honeymoon is over, how is the Jeff Loomis 7 string

Now that the guitar has been out a while and people have had a real chance to play the guitar - how is it? I was watching Jeff on Guitar World on demand and that guitar looks f-n sweet. i've been sort of thinking about taking the dive into 7 strings again at some point this year, and this one catch's my eye. Plus there's a local Schecter dealer so I'm hoping to check one out soon.

Any reviews? And mods? Actually I'm just slightly more interested in hearing what people don't like about it, so I have an idea what i'd be getting myself into. I do hope to have a better experience then with the DK7T
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Have you check the www.sevenstring.org forums? There's a lot of talk about Schecters in general over there, Loomis and otherwise. Most people seem to love them, but the typical comment is that the neck is pretty beefy compared to the Jackson COW or various Ibanez RGs.

If it's anything like the Hellraiser 7 (should be better actually) it's a kickass guitar. I didn't find the Hellraiser 7 neck to be that thick compared to my COW7, it was thicker, but it didn't bother my small hands much.

I really wanna try one. Nowhere here has any though. My guitar teacher really wants me to get one so we can play more Nevermore stuff.

I had a Schecter C-1 hellraiser, not the same but pretty close, I agree that the quality was great had a little fret buzz but that was an easy fix but I'd go Agile if i were to do 7 string. the neck profile is just a little better than schecter (the ones ive played anyway) and pay less for similar to equal quality. good luck.

I have heard that many prefer the finish of the loomis satin to the normal gloss schecters, many manufacturers have bad gloss finishes which make the gutiar not feel as good to some players, I hate it when the gloss is really thick and just makes the guitar feel cheap..

It's that almost glassy feeling I hate, but the loomis has a satin neck and body so that should elminate what most people dislike about schecters.

They arent the only manufacturer that has this plenty of other makers have the cheap glassy gloss feel going on...

The satin also makes the guitar feel more alive too apparently, i'd love to check one out when I can the only thing i'm not fussed on are the EMG's but some companies do make emg sized passive's so I could change over If I wanted to...

And they also make the string through version aswell which is cool..

I think it's great the guitar is nearly identical on both sometimes the string through models have features or changes that always make me prefer the floyd model jeff and Schecter were smart making it no different other than the bridge/nut...

I would love to try one sometime dont know many places that sell schecter in the uk anymore I believe the only dealer was sound control who went bust, unless soemone else took up distribution here...
