Everybody has some great advice for you here Megadeth 79. What you are feeling is nothing anybody who has been playing for a while, hasn't felt once or many times. You can't beat a Strat for being a really comfortable axe to play, and there are a lot of ways you can customize it to your playing needs. Les Pauls are the quintessential rock guitar and the sound can't be beat, even though I call it one dimensional. As far as your Jacksons, Charvels and ESP guitars go, I say this. If they are USA model Jacksons and Charvels, keep them. If they are recent imports, don't be afraid to off them. If the ESP is a Explorer, Kamikaze or something killer keep it. If its a LTD, off it. As far as a Les Paul goes, don't waste your time with a Les Paul Studio. Get a Standard, Classic or Custom, and you'll be stylin'. You can get away with a mexican strat, but get a '07 or newer. Buy used, because the new stuff is way, way overpriced. If you have never gone Les Paul/Strat/Marshall- go for it, you will dig it. You just don't want to off any really fine Jacksons, Charvels or ESPs because they will be harder to replace down the line. Don't sweat getting old, it is cool. I am probably the oldest member on JCF Online.

I'm about to hit 40 and I would not let go any of my guitars, even if most of them are cheap ones! And I still like pointy or metal type guitars!

I don't own yet a LP and a strat but one day I will. Save up and keep the collection growing.

Do it...especially the Strat. In fact,just get a Fender Strat with a bucker in the bridge and 2 single coils,best of both worlds.

Oh and i`m 40 and a big metal head but as far as guitars go...Fender Strats all the way!

If ever he wants a Strat, simply change the pickguard to one that fits single coils in it. It's like 2 guitars in one?

Count me in the go for it camp. However, I would keep at least 1 neck-through Jackson if you have one, either a soloist or V . Nothing I've ever had my hands on plays like a USA Jackson.

I'm 56 and still a metal head.Like classic rock too and when it comes to playing Pink Floyd stuff the strat is the tits.
I cut the constant high gain years ago and my J/C's still sound great.
Strat sounds can be achieved with a J/C guitar so no need to sell them.Get a used MIJ fender they are just as good as the new USA stuff for a lot less money.
If you do sell off some keep a 1 hum Charvel with a floyd and a Jackson of some kind you will miss them.
I love my Fenders and Gibbys too but do tire of them after a while and always come back to my trusty J/C's.

I have to agreee with this. I've sold many a guitar, and it's just a shitty, empty feeling when they're gone. I was lucky: The one guitar that I sold that NEVER should have left my hands found it's way back to me in just a couple of years. I treasure her now (A snakesin Ontario Jackson, BTW...) It is a tough call, no doubt. IF you can, sell her here or locally, with the stipulation that if you have regrets you can buy them back. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I sold my Ibanez RG. (I wasn't playing it at all actually) Now I will try to sell 1 Charvel and 1 ESP to finance a Strat and a LP. I will keep my 2 SL2Hs. It would have been nice to be a bit rich to keep all of my stuff.

I've almost always regretted selling my guitars to fund a new purchase, with the exception of a few cheap crappy guitars I've owned. I have two Les Pauls, and while I use and like them both, I've found my So-Cal is more versatile. My band is pretty "metal", but the Charvel can "do" classic rock just fine if need be.

I dont keep what I don't play so I don't really have any sellers remorse and I've sold some nice ones, if I kept them they still wouldnt be played.
