  • Sub $500 George Lynch M-1 Tiger - anyone tried it - NEW ESP LTD GL-200MT

I came across this in a catalog I just received ... the new GL-200MT, a sub 500 version of the M-1 Tiger.

    See bottom of this page:
One of the world's leading manufacturers of high quality guitars and basses.

It looks more or less just like the "real one". Has anyone tried one of these cheaper ones out? The price makes me wonder ... if the floyd rose, something called a "Floyd Rose Special" is any good at all it might be a tremendous bargain. Just pop in a decent pickup and you've got what might a pretty cheap decent single hum guitar with graphic.

the only thing that kills it for me is the ugly 12th fret inlay
Say, I smell bacon.Does anyone else smell bacon?
Yeah, I definitely smell a pork product of some type.

Here are the specs on the bridge.. The rockwell hardness is great but its using zing block and saddles.. Could be upgraded pretty reasonably for more mass and sustain.

Looks like a decent guitar otherwise. Pickup would just be a matter of choice..if its the normal import LTD its a bit cheezy for my taste.

I haven't played that one yet but I have played the new LTD Page Hamilton.

That one is a kick ass rock guitar. Also, on this picture it appears to have a neck pickup, it doesn't, it's a tremolo spring inside that cavity.

That's strange ... why would there be a spring in the neck pickup cavity?

I have no idea but Page Hamilton's old Horizon has that as well.

One thing I noticed about the LTD Tiger is that it doesn´t have the real neck specs... it´s a "regular" LTD neck with a 11/16" nut rather than a fat Lynch neck with 1 3/4".

also the LTD model uses a Basswood body instead of a Maple body like the original ESP
model (but that might be a good thing to some..personally i find maple bodies to be a little on the heavy side )

Yeah ... I was thinking also that the basswood body would be good for lower weight and probably good tonewise also. Probably will not be as durable though and will dent easier over time. From what I recall basswood can be kind of soft compared to maple, alder, or mahogany.

Saw this thread on the ESP forum where someone just got one and is intending to post a review:

Seems like it's made in China with a Korean Floyd. I have read that these Floyd Rose Specials are just as good or a step above a typical LFR.

I know the old saying that the value of an opinion is generally inversely proportional to the strength with which it is held.

I've visually checked out the bengal at Sam Ash in NYC. Wouldn't touch it with a 32' pole. Looked cheap.

That's too bad it's so cheap-looking. I guess in the end you get what you pay for.

Over on the ESP forums someone is saying how great it is, but I'd rather hear from a JCFer!

I still may check them out at Sam Ash if/when they get one in.

The body actually has a great Bengal pattern. But they screwed the pooch on the headstock. I'm sorry, but whenever I see "LTD," I think FORD!
