  • DiMarzio Super 3...closer or more away from strings?

I`m really into my new Super 3 that i had installed in my Strat but i`m not sure if i like it better set closer to the strings or lower. Closer to the strings gives me a brighter sound with more output and lower gives me less output but a more harmonically rich (not sure how to describe it)sound. I kind of compromised and set it in the middle but i was courious as to how the Super 3 uses in here set theres and for what reasons.

I guess set it to where you like it.

Hopefully I'll get my Super 3 wired up soon. I'd like to hear how it sounds.

I think you'll see those characteristics with pretty much any pickup. I prefer brighter, higher-output on the bridge pickup, and more "harmonically rich" on the neck, so my bridge pickups are always a bit higher than the neck pickups.

        yep
i prefer my pickups lower, i like the overtones. & usually have enough gain and output on tap anyway with a pedal if needed.

Lower the pickup and then raise the pole pieces a little.

I use my Super III's like Greg Howe, I raise the treble side and lower the bass side until it chunks nice and tight without mush. Works for me
