There are several music stores in the area and several pawn shops, ranking anywhere from "useless" to "okay." I've bought a USA Soloist and a Fusion EX in pawn shops here but those are rare events. If there's anything in particular you're looking for, though, let me know because I scout them fairly often.

EDIT: Just caught this.... what pawn shop are you referring to, north of Knoxville? Also, how far north? Now I'm interested!

The pawnshop down on Gay St. used to have a '69 Goldtop for $425 bucks back when I was a student at UTK. Also bought my DT-555 from Rober Hewgley at Hewgley's West. Pick "n" Grin (I believe was then name) had a Fender Starcaster (like a 335) for about 5 bills.....of course this was 1985.

Oh, Pick "N" Grin also had a 60's Kay Stack. Seperate head and speaker cabinet. I think they wanted about 199 for it.
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?

      Current Junk:
98 ESP S'burst Tiger,(2) 85 Jackson Soloists (1 pink, 1 red and a white 85 Rhoads),08 Wayne,98 Blackmore, 91 375 Deluxe, 91 MM EVH Purple, 75 Ibanez Korina Destroyer,74 Strat, 78 JMP, 87 JCM800, (2) 80 Hamer Sunbursts, Peavey Vandenberg Custom Puzzle, 335, LPR8, 80 Dimarzio Explorer, 80 Dimarzio Strat, 84 Charvel, Nightswan, LPC Lite, old Baretta, etc. etc. +stuff. Of all the places you mentioned, only Pick-n-Grin still remains as far as I know (I moved to Knoxville in 1997). Pick-n-Grin sometimes gets some nice used stuff but I personally think their used prices are beyond insane. They had a Charvel Model 1 a few years ago and it was tagged as a USA Charvel, I suppose because of the Fort Worth neck plate, and they were asking about $399.00 for it. I tried to explain the deal to them, and also the fact that a Model 1 usually goes for about $150.00-ish in pawn shops and E-Bay, but they never changed it. I guess they didn't believe me.

Thanks, but I really have my heart set on a maple fingerboard with this particular model of guitar. Besides, my big concern is that the guy might have re-drilled to fit the Squier neck on it, since the Squier neck didn't quite fill the pocket completely. I suppose I could ask them to destring it and pop it off to let me see. If it indeed hasn't been re-drilled, I might still consider going that route if I can find a reasonably priced neck.

But before I would do that, I'll need to see how reasonable they'll get on the now-useless guitar as it hangs there. I suppose Einstein didn't realize, as Grandturk mentioned above, that he actually screwed two guitars over since neither guitar will now intonate properly.
