  • strats bodys wood types

n't a strat but now I notice that maybe the strats body wood changed more that I think they had. Whats the normal wood on a strat traditionally? and what was the body wood of some of the more famous strat players: SRV, Jimi, Clapton, Gilmore, etc?

For the old ones - ash on transparant finishes and alder on solid colors. At some point they started doing sunbursts on alder, but for the most part, that rule of thumb is true.

        1. Most popular, early Strats and Tele's - Ash, since that was the predominant wood offered by Fender.
        Later Strats - Alder
        2. Most of the artists you mentioned, both.

Alder for solid and ash for transparent like turk stated. later on they used poplar because it sounds very similar to alder. Some of the Japanese were basswood.
            It's pronounced soops

I read an article where a guy from fender layed out all the differences. It was mostly the differences between the pre/post 2006 MIM's and the differences between them and the USA's. I can't find it now but I remember the only body difference between the post 06 mim and usa (solid colors at least) is the usa is 3 pieces and the MIM is 5-7 pieces. And while I was looking... It makes me laugh... alot... about the USA vs MIM arguements!! Always good comedy there..
