Carvin releases new "old" guitar

One of the things I remember Ed saying was that he would balance out the dive.If he went down, he would try to pull up a bit to get the strings to go back to 0...I do this too and it helps out alot. Equal tention helps tunning stability..

Exactly Ed's guitar did not stay in tune if you listen to the bootlegs. Thats why he rarely would play full chords. If you want to use the whammy you need to have a locking nut. Locking tuners, a roller nut, a straight pull headstock, graphite nut, brass nut, bone nut, Kahler, Floyd, it doesn't matter.... none of them work unless you use the bar for very slight tremelo only.

Maybe not the best example. I am not the biggest Van Halen fan.

Bass with a Kahler trem, no locking nut. Listen to it be repeatedly dropped extremely, especially at 3:50, then come back to a full E chord in perfect tune.

It CAN be done and work to whatever extent you want it to.

They also say he prefered the sound of the Fender for solos so you can imagine how many times they had to retune or have a backup for the type of hammering he does.

My carvin does fine. I hammer it pretty bad mostly pull backs and haven't had to tune it in a while.

I agree. It's like seeing a super hot pair of legs, moving up and finding the hips and tummy are even hotter, then you get to the face and it's like amy winehouse after a night of being bludgeoned in the face with rsmacker's hips.

Hey, that's a pretty nice guitar, aside from the headstock (someone mentioned bringing back the pointy, and I agree.) I was afraid it was gonna be one of those v220s. I never liked those things...

You can get the '90-91 style pointy on Carvins now, including on this model. They can't do the '88-89 Jackson imitation headstock anymore for obvious legal reasons.

There's one guy on the Carvin forum that has like a million Carvin guitars, and he's already put in his order for an ST300 with Jason Becker specs (well, as close as you can get anyway).

My guitarist doesn't have a problem with the lack of a locking nut either. He doesn't use the bar all that often, but it doesn't throw him out of whack.
