I have a Suhr standard and the the quality is as good if not better than other guitars in that price range. The body shape of the standard is almost identical to my Charvel Custom Shops which I really like. I have a quilt top that rivals any PRS Private Stock. The color is Bengal which would be PRS's Tiger Eye. It's a badass guitar.

I played a used Suhr Standard in a store recently and was quite impressed. Don't know that I'd pay $3,000+ for one, though. But it's not the style of guitar I play normally, so that probably explains it.

Oh, and I don't think the resale value on them is all that great unless it's an uber-custom. The one I played was selling for about $1,200.

            That sounds abnormally cheap.

Even the standards and pros over here are regularly going for circa £1500 on ebay.
            Thats about $2400-$2500 used.

For $1200 I would have pounced on it. Regardless of what model it was.

I'm looking at getting one at the end of the year. I'm considering the Pro Modern (M2)too if they really are the same quality as the Moderns.

I might give you a call then if the shipping is reasonable Matt.

It's always up to the buyer to decide if the price is worth it, but like many others in this thread, I give major props to Suhr.

In my opinion, you can't buy a better bolt-on guitar today. Superb in all respects.

"Best" is a relative term, but easily in the top 5 builders.

IMO if a guitar has a $3K+ price tag it better say Jackson Custom Shop on it, just sayin'

I think though, that Suhr's quality may be a notch better.

There is a store here that ONLY carries Suhr and Anderson guitars. There is not a single guitar in that store under 4500 and most are over 5000.

I'm sorry guys, I don't see it. For 5 grand that guitar better play itself and wipe my ass for me at the same time. Granted, they are nice guitars, VERY high quality and all but there is no way in hell I would pay that for a guitar. I can appreciate an exquisitly built instrument just as much as the next guy, but that's just crazy.

Thats where I disagree. Their quality is fine but not any better than USA Jacksons. IOW I don't hear or feel a $2K difference between them and other high end guitars. Same goes for Tom Anderson too. Nice but just like new Les Pauls, way over priced.

Perhaps Suhr players think Jackson Pro Shops are equal to a Squier?

I've not had the opportunity to play one.
Vintage PRS, yes, not all that impressed.
Feels great, tone was never quite there, then I encountered others where I like the tone, but hated the baseball bat feeling neck.
                        Personal preferences.

Looks like a light colored rosewood fretboard.
                        True?

What about the pro-models? They're not that expensive. I'm considering buying one from Matt's Music.

I could not have said it better. I ended buying a cheap Ibanez (flame shield on) and kept the remaining money to get laser eye surgery (I was convinced by my forumite friends here! Not for the guitar but for the surgery )

And if I had paid the 5k range for my Suhr I'd agree. I paid CS money for a CS level guitar. I think the Suhr fit and finish was better, with the money being equal.

I think were comparing MAP to actuals by using the 5k number.

I'd tell you to give it a try and see if you like it.
