  • Lado Lazer replica

I thought you guys might be interested in this. I am building a copy of my Lado Lazer. It's not going to be an exact copy. It's a set-neck, and the body is mahogany with a half inch flame maple cap. It will have a TOM bridge with string thru instead of a Floyd like the original. Here's a couple of pics.

    Here's the original:

    The replica:

I'm probably going with trans black with black hardware.

The original has a snappy, but surprisingly rounded tone to it. It's also not ridiculously heavy considering it's solid maple. There is a story regarding how long it took me to acquire this guitar too.

I always wondered what it would sound like with a part mahogany body, and a fixed bridge, so I decided to build the replica.

Killer Lado! It looks like the Lee Aaron dudes guitar. Is it?

Yes, it used to belong to John Albani from the Lee Aaron band. The first time I saw it was in the video for Sex With Love, and I fell in love with it right away. I never imagined I would actually get my hands on it many years later. The Clydesdale flight case has LEE AARON stenciled on it, and has seen a fair amount of travel by the looks of it. The case weighs about 50lbs.

I agree. The build quality is amazing, but they still have a really cool hand-made vibe to them. You won't find any CNC duplicators in Joe's shop, that's for sure. He's old school!!

I haven't really worked on the guitars for a few days, but here's an updated pic of the neck joint of the Lazer roughed out. It's pretty damn comfortable, and it's not even finished yet.

Man, that's looking nice. I like the look of that neck joint. Not too much heel. Looks like the original has great access to the upper frets, unlike my KE2.

I'll have to post a pic of the neck joint on the original for you. It's wild.
