  • Old 80s Kramer pickup question

Recently acquired a pickup from an old 80s Kramer 300ST Striker (humbucker) and it has a cover on it that says "Designed by Seymour Duncan".

The cover is held on with 2 small screws - one on each "leg".

It has 3 holes in each "foot" - the center one (where the mounting screw should go) in not threaded, but the two outer ones are threaded.

Anyone know where the hell to get a mounting ring for this?

I have a couple of them bro.. let me dig them out and see what shape they are in. If I can find them they are yours for cheap.
    Is this it??

Hmmm. I had one exactly like this

But it came with some funky EVH-style graphic - black and green stripes over white pearl with flourescent orange stripes on the head - which I scraped off. Looked like a Krylon job anyway since it was on top of the clear.

Mine even had the same Floyd.

Anyhoo, I kept the pickup out of that guitar for years (had replaced it with a Full Shred - talk about False Advertisement )

Anyway, that pickup had a cool EVH-like tone, but it had stubby wires (like 2" long) and I finally ditched it years ago.

The pickup I have now (the subject of this thread) was listed by the seller as having come from an old 80s Kramer Striker, though my old one didn't have a cover.

Anyhoo, I can't find another like it on Ebay right now, so here's a few pics of it:

These rings... Good luck. I've never seen a set like them anywhere.. Mine are on a 91 610.

                Wow - never seen those.

I have a righteous pickup out of my old Kramer Focus - bridge pickup, ink stamped "California Pickup Co." Kills. I need a project guitar to put it in.

Never could find out anything about this mysterious "California Pickup Co." though.

I cannot imagine the reasoning behind the twin-screws design. Even the old Schaller that had 2 on one side and 1 on the other - why? What could you possibly do with the screws so close?

It had to be to compensate for slanted rings.

Yeah.. it was just to level from front to back. With mine being a 91 it was so late in the Kramer production it probably got whatever parts were left. I got it from a dealer in southern missouri as NOS.. I got it in 2002. Still had the hang tags and invoice from where he ordered it.. It was the one that never sold.
I have one somewhere at the house that has Powersound pickups.. At least thats one of the tag things that came with it new in the tool pouch. I think its an 85 Striker or focus.. I got too many to remember.

The early Kramers had Shaller pickups.

Can you just tap the center hole and then just use 1 screw on each side with a normal ring? Or are you trying for an exact oem thing.

Same goes for older BC Rich's = Schaller pickups.

                            I don't have a thread tap set.

Wasn't sure if the ring was easy to find or not. Since it's not, and since this pickup isn't the one I thought it was (my old one had normal feet), then the point is moot, and the pickup's going away

B.C. Rich used Guild pickups 1st than DiMarzio untill the mid 80's. I don't remember them ever using Shaller not that they're bad pickups.
