Cool, I have copied this and emailed to myself as a reminder. I am thinking maybe no floyd I'm lucky i got my warmoth soloist together and working, i can just see forgetting some detail on this and totally ruining the project.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Mine is Floyd'ed - but I had it routed for surface-mount for just that reason.

        Ok, here's my parts...

        Swamp-ashy goodness

I'm planning a two-tone dye (honey/black back) with a Tru-oil finish. I stripped down my old $200 Franken-Squire to experiment. Turned out damn nice!

The Bird should turn out lighter in color. I put down WAYY too much black on the top and didn't sand back enough. But the color looked cool enough to keep.

Sully where did you get your template from? Also in regards to the router you are using. What brand is it and is there any feature in particular to look for when buying a router? I know how to use a router and have done work with them before, but I dont know what to look for when buying one. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Cool projects guys!!! Sully, yours is soo thick!

As for bridges, it really depends on what you like from a feel perspective. The stop tail/TOM setup typically requires a more pitched neck and requires your right hand to be farther off of the body. The string through allows a straighter neck mount and keeps the right hand closer to the body as it would be with a v-trem or a recessed Floyd.

Tonally, a stop tail/TOM has noticeably more bite and sustain than a string through, but also less "balls" in the low end. These are generalities...your actual pieces of wood and setup will ultimately determine tone and sustain.

                ...that's what she said!

Rupe, mine are to Jackson spec, which is the thicker 1 3/4" thickness in the center, with the wings thinned down 1/8" on top and back.

I made it from a Jackson Firebird body.

The router I have is a Craftsman; it came with a plunge and a fixed base. I believe I got it for 110.00. It's got the slow start, which is a nice feature, and it's been pretty good to me so far.
