I have a VG Strat and it will play just fine on the regular Strat pickups if the battery goes dead. Its a great idea and too bad they're phasing it out. Being able to do acoustic plus electric in one guitar is very helpful. As mentioned above, twist a knob and you're in drop D tuning ready for some VH Unchained! If you're into baritones its got that too!

Mine works just like a strat when the batteries die as well. Sounds like user error when you were in the store broken. This is a great rehearsal guitar. I still like playing my Jackson's but don't always want to cart a few guitars around. I can easily go to drop D and acoustic with no problem.

Sounds like the person had it on strat mode, which obv wont work, i could see myself doing that too though, so no biggie haha
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
