  • I made a trade and now I'm the owner of an...

    Ibanez-made Cimar Gibson Marauder copy.

Late Seventies, used but not abused, retrofitted with a Bigsby.

It also has retrofitted "tulip" tuners and a Bogus Gibson Logo.

But as expected from a Japanese made guitar it's a really nice instrument.

was it one of the like chinese fake sites dh gate or w/e? oh wait nvm, i see, but these are the kind of fake type things the chinese are making, except they are like made of plywood or something, but the same idea
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

Begs the question - is the market really that desperate for Gibson Maruaders that someone needed to make a fake?

Sweet christmas - they couldn't give them away in the 70's and as of a couple years ago, you could get them all day long for $200 (I'm sure that's up to like $5k now).

For real, MOST novice to medium guitar players dont even know what a gibson marauder is.

We owe that to Kiss' popularity in Japan, they were Gibson endorsers and people wanted to have the guitars Gene, Ace and Paul were using so they copied them.

I bought a Gibson Marauder for $75 at a garage sale back in the late 80's.

I traded it for an 8-ball (you know what I'm talking about) in 1994 or so...

Was surprised to see one hanging in a music store for 40000yen ($400) recently.

I always thought about buying one and modding it with decent pickups - some kind of Tele hot rail and blazing ceramic neck hummer. Maybe scallop the board.

That pickguard is still fucking horrible.

That looks like something Jack White would play.

Well I removed the Bigsby since it went out of tune by just looking at it and I moved the bridge since the clumsy fool who installed that thing got the allignment wrong (If you look at the close up of the body you'll see that the High E string isn't even above the magnet bar of the bridge pickup.)

As for how a Marauder sounds, I'll let the longest existing Dutch band, The Golden Earring, answer that question.

I learned that by dropping the neck pickup low until it's almost flush with the pickguard (That neck pickup is a HOT motherfucker) you can get a real raw P90 like sound from the low output bridge pickup. It sounds wirey and punk. But I often wonder what they were thinking putting a high output pickup in the neck position and a low output pickup at the bridge, most of us like it the other way round.

                      I've got an awesome 1976 Marauder...traded a dime-a-dozen 2006 USA Fender Strat for it:

Mine has the cool 'blender' for the pickups instead of the switch!

My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

I got two MARAUDERS in the 70's. They were Gibson lites for me doing 5 sets/6 days. A Les Paul was too much weight. Here's a pic of the first one 1975 with a PU panning dial. a 70's strap was in the case after 20 years..
A Gibson MIII in the background.

The other Marauder is in pieces in it's case from restoring this one in the 21st Century.

All these Maruader pics are making me throwup in my mouth a little bit...

It is ugly... but unique looking enough for me to actually like it. Hard to explain. Think calico cats.

                            What was your trade?
