  • My Interpretation of the Adrian Smith Model

OK, so Jackson made the Adrian Smith Sig model. Maiden just happens to be my favorite band. That said, I wanted to build my interpretation of the Jackson Adrian Smith Strat. So here it is.

Firstly, it is an alder Strat body with a flame maple top, that I got from the Screamin' Deals section. The neck is a quartersawn maple with abalone dots. 1 5/8" nut. Adrian's sig has a DiMarzio Super D in the bridge and Fender HOT SCN pickups in the neck and middle positions. The HOT SCN's are not availabile in the aftermarket, so this guitar has a used Fender HOT SCN that I won off E-bay in the neck, with a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage 2.1 in the middle...the bridge is a Super D. His sig model has a non-recessed Floyd, but I like a recessed Floyd, so it is recessed.

Finally, my friend Doug did me up an Eddie neck plate.

    Here are the pics:

So outside the pups, what makes it a Smith?

Looks cool. Hope it sounds good.

Another difference - one piece neck with a skunk stripe... Vol/Tone... side input jack...

        Maybe spray paint it white?

The strat shape, the maple neck and the dots with the fender headstock, and the Floyd
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

So by that rationale, the Dave Murray strat is the same as the Adrian Smith strat?

Nothing down on the guitar, mind you - I really dig the neck plate - is that hand engraved?

              No worries.

The Dave Murray Strat, IIRC has two humbuckers. And that is a subject for a future thread.

This was not intended to be a simple copy, just a guitar that was inspired by his sig version. There are similarities, and there are differences. The differences are based in what I want in a guitar. Then again, I'm no Adrian Smith.

The neckplate was done by a friend of mine who does engraving on a CNC machine. He puts the pic into the software, and the machine does the rest.

                What you should do

Remove the brand logo on the headstock and then get a custom sticker or something saying DocNrock Customs and laquer it in, that would save them knowing it's Warmoth and be partial advertisement campaign!
                Gear

                Jackson DXMG
                Jackson JS30RR
                Boss ML2 Metalcore Pedal
                Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby
                Blackstar HT5H
                Marshall MC212

                Gear I want

                Jackson RR1T Black
                Marshall JCM 800 2203

                  I like it!

I would have to agree that it doesn't seem to have that much to do with the AS Signature, but again, I like it! Maybe better than the AS Sig, because it's one-of-a-kind, and you can't mass produce that.

                    Thanks.

Perhaps I approached this thread in the wrong way. The build was inspired by the AS model, but was not inteneded in any way to be a copy of it. That would have been too easy.

DOH! I shouldn't even open your threads! I have so much GAS for another Warmoth now. The one I built earlier in the year is still my #1 guitar now.

Beautiful build btw! I may copy it a little soon
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I am interested in doing something like this, how much did all the warmoth parts individually cost? estimate is fine...

Given that the body was taken from the Screamin' Deals section, the whole thing cost about $1000. That includes all hardware, the Floyd, etc.

You should have budgeted an extra $5 for strings!

Just funnin' you, bro - good stuff.

You're welcome, and I understand. I did initially think it was "inspired" as in "It's not a Jackson, but it's a white Strat-head with a Floyd" but then I read your posts regarding what you wanted to do with it. I didn't mean to rub it in at all, just kind of agreeing with the "Hey that wasn't what I expected..." that some others expressed.

Couple of questions if you don't mind. I saw that body for sale and almost bought it... It looked very nice in the showcase.

How do you like their finishes, up close and personal? Good quality? Good attention to detail?

I can't tell from the pics, did you go with the "black dyed routes" or do otherwise for the recessed FR?
