  • Bently Series 10 - Bass?

Just bought this. Plywood body, very heavy. Gotoh tuners. The fretboard is a bit puzzling. The edge is rosewood, but the fretboard itself is dark. Sharpie? Stained? It sort of looks cool like it's an ebony fretboard with rosewood binding. One volume controls the front pickup(s?), one controls the back, and there is a tone control. The electronics work but have been obviously messed with.

I don't know jack shit about bass. Any help at all would be great, like what do I tune the strings to? I just want to play Maiden. I'm using a Line 6 Clean on the PODxt, but man the output is low. I also have a POD 2.3 and a Vox VT15.

    Thanks.

Thanks. It's tuned down a 1/2 at the moment. Truss rod cover is missing, so I wonder is someone messed with the truss rod.

How does it sound? What is the action like? If you change the strings, get a set of RotoSounds. Oh man do those things sound good.

Tuned up now. Intonation seems a little sharp - need to move the saddles back some.

Played the Trooper just using the front neck pickup. Sounds good I guess - first time I ever played a bass. The bridge pickup is a bit cleaner and lower in output. In fact, both pickups seem low in output but I guess that is to be expected. Aren't bass guitars clean?

Action is higher than a guitar but not too bad. Neck still looks pretty straight at concert pitch. I think I can put a Jackson truss rod cover on the headstock - I think it would fit.

I'm not opposed to changing out the hardware. I'm guessing the Gotoh tuners are good.

PhantomOfTheOpera live video for a newbie bass "lesson"???... you need someone who has done the song on their bass to actually see what Steve is playing, like this guy here:

He can play the shit out of Maiden for sure, but trying to figure out what he is playing is bizarre and very different from what you'd expect to see --

Just got done watching it. Very cool, and now I can see that I have a very, very long way to go

It's going to take a long time getting the strumming fingers flying all around like that.

What about gold sparkle ? Bling it ! Just dark stain the board, so you can oil it.
