  • Suggestions needed for pickups for an Epiphone LP

I have one of those "Custom Shop" Guitar of the Week Les Pauls MF were selling for a while. It had three pickups. Since my Agile will be my main les paul style guitar hands down, this frees me up to experiment with the epi.

I was thinking about throwing a Dime in the bridge, but I don't know what to put in the middle and neck. Really the only time I use the neck pickup is on clean stuff so whatever i put in there i really want a crisp clean full sound.

the middle one i never use as it, not unless i hit the switch by accident and don't notice. i wouldn't mind something really different from the neck and the bridge
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I will also add that this guitar will be used mostly for metal kinds of stuff. I really like how the dime sounds in the bridge in mahogany so that's why i'm going with it.. but since i'm taking suggestions i may go with anything. just no JB's of pearly gates please.

      Super Distortion - b
      PAF Pro - n

Best combo I've ever had in a Les Paul.

My 3 pickup Epi Black Beauty has (all Duncans):

        Alnico Pro II bridge

        Phat Cat middle (bridge version)

        '59 neck

        It sounds fantastic.

I've never tried a Dimebucker, but not many people seem to like them (wait, you had/have a BL USA 500XL right?) One of the Custom series might do you better than the A2P bridge.

Whatever you do, I think it's pointless putting another humbucker in the middle, that's why I went for a Phat Cat (P-90 type in a humbucker housing).

Stick an 81 or 85 in that sucker. A Super D will do the trick as well.

+1. With a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge.

                    Super Distortion in the bridge.
But, Perhaps a Phat Cat or Lace Dually in the neck. That should clean up cool.

                    Or 3 P-rails, so you can have a LP-Strat?

If you really don't use the middle, I'd just disconnect it, don't waste money putting in a pickup that'll never be used. Wire it like a normal 2 pup Les Paul.

Well what I was thinking with the middle is put something in there that would really sound different. It I could get three really good sounds coming out then I probably would use it. but the pickup that's in there really doesn't sound any different to me then the bridge where at least in the neck position it has that kind of... well neck pickup sound (lol)

I would say Tone Zone bridge (or Norton), and Air Norton neck. For the middle, how about a Humbucker from Hell?

+0.5 to what Zeeg said. I would go Custom/Jazz and call it a wrap.
