Probably the same reason I don't like:

    - Hardtail strats
    - Tune-o-matics on strats
    - flame maple tops on strats
    - Bigsby's on anything (that's not precisely the same - I really don't like Bigsby's at all)
    - Roller nuts
    - locking tuners
I think I changed my mind. You ARE as weird as me about that stuff. I don't have the same dis-tastes (except Tune-O-Matics on Strats, Bigsbys, and roller nuts) but in the sense that there are things I don't like "just because."

Hey great suggestions - not familiar with the Fernandes. You got any further info on it? I didn't think Dave ever played a Fernandes.

@ MIJ w/ Floyd - "better" is debatable - but I don't want a Floyd on this one, you know, like what he played in '82.

Aaahhh, you want the one that goes out of tune all of the time so that it drives you nuts to the point that you hack a Floyd onto it.

Damn - you are trying to get it true to the original!

Yes! But first I'd hack it for a Kahler, then a floyd, then back to v-trem and then sit it in a glass case at me mums!

Actually, I've done well with v-trem staying in tune for all but the wildest whammy action. Its all in the setup.

Well - I'm headed over there this afternoon to see if I can get it. Gotta say, I'm pretty stoked.

I'd love to get one of the Japanese versions with Floyd!

Whats up with the "Texas" sticker on that MIJ version? Does it have a 3-way or a 5-way? Are those Dimarzios in there?

I think the humbuckers are DiMarzios. The single coil might be some kind of Fender "Texas" thing, not sure. And I've got no clue whether it's a 3-way or 5-way switch. I've just seen the pic floating around a few times but haven't really heard much else about it.

I found a Fernandes DM on ebay about 5 years ago and all the hardware was brass even the nut, and had the Dimarzio SDs. Looked like an awesome axe too. And yes it was officially endorsed in Japan in the 80s. I got the cash and the guy had sold it. Those old Fernandes strat copies were nice too.

The Japanese DM Fender has a Texas Special in the middle. You can get one but have to go through Rinkya to get it and pay too much for them to arrange for shipping. But it will still come out less than the American one by about $500.
