Gibson to make a Rhoads sig

Maybe Fender threw them this bone to allow the Custom Shop to make the Firebirds again? I can't really see them letting Gibson get a sig model out for the guy who gave Jackson their first and most popular (?) model without getting something back, and I can't see Gibson letting back either without a bone.

The economy sucks so each side seems to be "bending" the agreement a little.
FMIC may do Fbirds, hopefully an explorer again or something. Plus they have Hamer who still makes standards and other Gibson shapes.

Gibson is doing a Shark Fin, that looks like a non-beveled warrior.

Plus both sides lost court cases to protect their shapes.

Maybe it's time to allow the agreement to lapse and let the market decide?

I can get the agreement for production models, but for Custom Shop stuff no. A Jackson Firebird would go almost definetly to a metal player, who very likely wasn't interested in the Gibson from the start, and anyone who was interested in the Gibson just wouldn't go get the Jackson, since the Gibby is readily available. Even if it was a production model, the pointy headstock would drive Gibson's traditional crowd away. The brands both have their loyal fanbases now, the agreement could go away.

And those "metal" guitars Gibson comes up with are horrible limited runs. If they want to get into the metal market, a standard production V and Explorer would be their best bet. But not that they really care about making headway in the players market, they've become a collector's brand IMO.

And Gibson using Rhoads' name is hardly the same thing as Gibson allowing Jackson to make their body shapes.

Apparently they're going to have a thicker Norlin era neck and use Norlin size frets, whatever that means. This will sell just like the $25,000 aged Jimmy Page did because Gibson has a strong collector fanbase that will buy whatever shit Gibson puts out, so long as it says Gibson somewhere on it.

It is limited to like 200 regular and 100 signed though, so it's only a short run.

I have been waiting for the this since I heard marshall was gonna do rr amp. Its bs and will always be bs. these fuckstains need to stop trying to profit from past away legends. Fender never had srv model until when? There was never "really" a dimebag model until when? They do it for money and it's sickening.

This is why I respect Jackson as a brand; they don't do this kind of crap. They make the Rhoads model, but that was planned for production since Randy worked with Grover.

I already have a Rhoads sig model. It's called an RR1T. Sure, it's a little different than the exact one he designed but it's basically his. The Les Paul is the guitar HIS heroes played.

You know it's funny, as much as Randy was an inspiration to me and as much as he played them, the Les Paul never really spoke to me as a guitar. When it comes to traditional shapes I've always preferred the Strat. Which is also funny because I am a neckthrough guy and set neck is closer than bolt on. But the neckthrough is what drew me to Jacksons (and my model series Charvel) in the first place.

Nah, Fender and SRV were working on the SRV model right before he was killed. It was Stevie who spec'd out the Texas Specials, the Pau Ferro and the asymetrical neck carve that matched his #1.
