  • thought I try PRS also

so I had the chance to buy for cheap both a used US and import:

    a Mc Carthy

    and a SE Tremonti

I had to say I was really impressed with both..

I also had a PRS SE camo but that looked and sounded nothingwise like the Tremonti, so it got tossed out.

So, what is your experience with PRS in terms of used ones..
which are the ones to go for in your opinion ?

If you like the McCarty you have then I'd go for a used McCarty with a solid rosewood neck.

The imports are nice.Great bang for the buck.Tremonti's are mahogony too and can be hard to find.

i have always had a thing for the CE models. great tops, you can get them with the birds, they sound a little rounder to me because of the maple neck...and they are sround half the price of a used custom - or they were. PRS discontinued the CE models last year, i believe
        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I have a prs se singlecut that I love. I think it's supposed to be a whale blue but it's more green.

I agree -they're great guitars for the money. My Singlecut SE was my go-to guitar for a long time.

I've always loved the Swamp ash specials with maple boards. They just look awesome but I've never played one to know. I've played a couple of the imports and was unimpressed with feel of em. The usa's I've played were all amazing players. How did the Tremonti SE play? It looks like the pickup were reversed on the Tremonti.

I really want to get one of these one day.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

                  Nice scores there, pebber!

I have a McCarty (bought new) and my only experience with a used PRS was an older CE that I had. I really liked that guitar and it sounded really good. In fact, when I sold it on consignment at my friends' store, Steve Lynch of Autograph bought it and still has it.

As for what to watch, some people get really torqued up over pre-1995 vs. post-1995 when the heel changed on the neck. Personally, as with any used guitar, I think you have to play it to really get a feel for whether or not the guitar is for you. Now, one thing that would be cool to find in a used PRS is something from before about 1989. Those are some of the really seriously expensive PRS's on the used market.

                  Enjoy your new PRS's, pebber.
