ESP Eclipse II... Am I crazy?

You're definitely not crazy. I consider the ESP Eclipse II a great "modern" take on the classic Les Paul. The neck shape, locking tuners, and the satin finish are perfect for me. If you are thinking about picking one up, the vintage white (psuedo Randy vibe) are on sale right now:

Yeah, I had seen that... Nice deal for $499 off. I'm not sure if I like the vintage white. Kinda wish the snow white had gold hardware, I'd let it get old and yellow when it feels like it.

There was a nice Vintage Black one on the 'Bay for $799 BIN, sold for $749.

I really hate buying guitars without playing them first, though... I like to accept all of the "flaws" before it's actually paid for.

Here's the thing - if you want a Les Paul then nothing is going to satisfy that except a Les Paul. Real ESPs are very nice guitars and might be better than, but its still not going to say "Gibson Les Paul Model" on the headstock.

Yep. Pretty simple.

the les paul is a big badge but the eclipse is a far more useable guitar.
