Need some advice please

So I have my nice model series that I redid top to bottom. Got some pickups for her and realized the mother fuckers wont fit...Talking about replacments for the single coil positions.

I like a fuckin moron got a cool rail and a lil screamin demon...No dice...

So I need some advice on some hot pickups for those spots.

Have a full size Screamin in the bridge position. I wanted somthing with some major power and a good balance for some clean tones

If you bought lipped pickups, it's easy to mod them to fit. Here are directions w/ pics:

Its a cool rail and lil demon no lip it seems they are too wide and a pinch long?

Its probably the poly and paint. If it's too thick on the edge of the cavity those pickups wont fit. Try carefully cleaning out the cavities and see if that gives you enough room.

Did you repaint it? I had the same problem with my Model 6 refin. Had to scrape some paint away to even get the original pickups to fit. (Too much paint got into/around cavities).

Or you can order them without the lip on them. Did you buy them new?

No and they are non lipped

The issue I've run across with the new style non-lipped Duncans is that the leads come out in the center and the heavy insulation is stiff & doesn't let it bend over at a sharp angle.



When I put Hot Rails in my Model 6, I ended up doing an undercut with a Dremel to give it some room to bend without putting a bunch of stress on the wires. You can't see it at all with the pickup in place.

If you ended up with excess paint buildup in there, you may have no choice but to do what wanthairspray had to do with his.

I had the same proboem with a lipped pickup in my USA Gunslinger project. I had to carefully file away some of the paint to make it fit then just pushed it into to place and screwed it down.

dremel fix

If you have a dremel tool, all you need to do is use the sanding drum and sand a little concave area out at the bottom edge of the pickup route( below the surface of the guitar). I did it on a beater model 4 body so I could put regular single coil pups in it. It doesn't affect the look of the front of the guitar at all and only takes a few minutes.
