  • New Charvel, but need help with model and finding a tremelo arm

    Hi guys,

Yesterday I scored myself a new Charvel for a decent price (I think, but that has yet to be seen), see crappy pics below. This is what I know. The serial number is 6 digit (346***), the plate on the back has the Texas postal address (from years ago) of Charvel on it. This would make it a Japanese model. Considering the logo, the production date is from 1989 - 1995. Also, it has 22 frets and the tremelo looks like a JT-6.

I cleaned it up, put new strings on it and it plays damn fine. Only one thing missing, the tremolo arm! The shop said it will order it from Fender, but who knows. Anyone know a store for a part like this, or a replacement from a different brand?

I looks like a 275 deluxe from 1989, but the humbucker is different. Can anyone confirm this?

you can see if www.fretsonthenet.com has them or replace the whole bushing and put in a replacement floyd bar like the ones from stewmac.

Yes, that looks like an '89 275. The shop won't be able to order a JT-6 arm from Fender. An Ibanez push-in bar will fit, but replacing with a floyd bushing & bar works great and gives you a more heavy-duty bar than the original. It's easy to do, and only takes a little bit of work.

Dunno if you have a Guitar Center store near you or not, I know the guys at the one near me, and the last two times I needed trem arms they had a bunch behind the counter that they gave me for free. They said they always get extras in with their guitar shipments.

You can put a collared OFR arm on it but you'll need to make the hole bigger for it to go through. Or you can do like I did and replace it with a Schaller unit that is far superior and a direct swap.

Could you tell me or show me a link to the specific Schaller part? I want to avoid a misfit in terms of dimensions.

Now you will have to make the hole bigger for it to fit.
