  • Model 5fx??

I never heard of this model until recently and all the sudden Ive run accross 2. What can you tell me about them? Im trying to get an 88 I just found

Is the 5fx the same body and all as the Model 6, but diff pickup configuration?

Is the 5fx rare? If so, any production figures??

Does it have compound radius board? Im betting not. (Seller claims it is)

    Poplar??

Any other info would be appreciated.. Thanks!

The 5FX is a Model 5A with an added single, slanted, in the neck position.
Yes they are rare, only made for one year. I don't have any numbers on them though.
Same body wood and shape as the Model 6.
They also have a compound radius board, but they do not have binding or shark fin inlays like the Model 6.

        Yep, they do.
I don't know of any production import Charvel guitar that doesn't have a compound radius board.

LOL! I hope they mean blinding leads.. cool!

I have one coming!! I hope the neck is thinner and faster than my 4.. I love my 4 but the neck is chunkier than my prized Kramers.. Ive always wanted a soloist, so Im SOOO stoked about getting this 5.. Supposedly, its close to mint condition!! Has a duncan hot rails in the neck and Dimarzio X2n in the bridge..

The Model 5 necks are a bit on the chunky side, but that is what sandpaper is for.

Here's what I did to my 5A. It's perfect now.

I cant imagine sanding the finish off of a guitar, but, wow, yours looks AMAZING!! did you coat it with anything?

It was a total refinish by Mike Learn.
The neck itself is just oiled.

                      Terrible picture of the front.
The flash was a bit hot, so you can't see all the metal flake in the finish.

Here's a slightly better shot of the front.

WOWZER!!!!! What kinda oil was used? Ive always wanted to try that, but have no clue.. Ive heard the old charvels with the oiled necks are like Heaven..

Funny, I was looking at Mike's site about 2 weeks ago and wishing and wondering.. I wont be rude and ask how much, but I will ask, should I just forget it?
I figure it would be cuz he is a legend...

The neck is finished with Tru oil.
It's gun stock oil. Feels great too.

Give Mike a call on pricing as it will totally depend on what you want done.
He is very reasonable and easy to work with.

Do you get that a gun store??? Ill have to try it on one of my axes.. (Ill experiment on a bolt on before I attempt what youve done)..

Cool, Ive never had anything custom painted. Ill have to decide on an idea.. My 5FX Im getting is White with a metal flake type finish as the dealer describes, so that may be perfect canvas.. I normally always buy Black guitars, but seeing as how this one is near mint, I couldnt pass it up..

Thanks So much for all the info!
